hello just wondering has anyone had experience with these eels eating smaller fishes like wrasses in the tank? i love them but just dont want them ot eat all my fairy wrasses lol and usually the ones gdm i see are very pale in color and not gold at all do the color get more intense as they grow? thanks

I have a GDM that is really more of a flesh color than golden yellow. It still has the blue eyes and a small yellow patch on the top of its head. Mine is ony around 10 inches long and I don't think it will get much bigger. I believe the GDMs stay pretty small compared to alot of other moray species. I have a Green Spotted Madarin in the same tank and there is no way I think the eel could fit even that small fish in its mouth. So I feel the wrasses should be safe. Do make sure to keep the tank extremely well covered. I had an escape attempt recently that almost ended in eel jerky.

I just received a 9" GDM Eel & was wondering how often I could feed (It is so fun 2 watch:thumbsup:

GDM love eating certain fish; gobies and pistol shrimp in particular. I hear they also have an affinity for jawfish. I kept mine away from all fish.

Sorry, not trying to hijack your thread, but hopefully this info will b good for the thread author as well:) My GDM is housed with a starry Blenny (but he is 4" long and does not seem worried) & a 3" CB Angelfish. All seem 2 b getting along great. GDM has eaten two small chunks of scallop since I received him Tuesday. What I have found on the internet seems 2 suggest feeding 1-2x per week, but I wondered if anyone has fed more often 2 keep him full and prevent any tank casualties?

Thanks

I have my GDM's with clowns, wrasses and dwarfs and have yet to see any issues. As far as feeding mine eats a couple times per week (from what I have seen.) I don't target feed the GDM's. I feed my tanks mostly Hikari mysis (small and big) and when they are hungry they will come out and find the shrimp and eat until they are full. My biggest is 12" and the preffered food is the large Hikari mysis.

Thanks for the info:) Twenty years ago I had a Snowflake Eel (and loved it), but this is my first GDM Eel and I love him:spin3: I placed some acrylic tubes on the bottom for him to explore and still be seen:wavehand:
