golden puffer has strange warts

Juice It

We have had this Golden puffer for 3 years now and it has been in perfect health except for a one time constipation issue. Now it seems to be growing warts that are a little smaller than a pea and a couple of them look ruptured while most are just under the skin. All together their are around 12. Now I have noticed a bump or 2 on this guy in the past and never thought anything of it. Now since he resides at my father in laws I don't see him too often but when I went over the other day I noticed many more of them and he said he has not been eating for about 2 weeks. His color still looks great and he is swimming around as normal. About 6 months ago I had this puffer moved to a local store while I moved my aquarium and he was there for over a week. He has been back in his normal tank for another 6 months and no new fish have been added in years. Water quality is great. Only thing I can come up with is some type of parasite at the local fish store but most here are more knowledgable than I. Anyone have any ideas or things I can try to help? Thanks!

Because he wouldn't eat for weeks once so we caught him to check him out and while thrashing in the bucket he emptied out a huge amount of waste including a bunch of gravel. Put him back and has been fine ever since and started eating soon after. Read online that puffers experience this from time to time due to eating coral and rock to keep their teeth worn down.
