Golden Puffer

Call me an idiot but I'm wondering what is everyone thoughts on here about this.

My LFS has a beautiful Golden Puffer that they have had for some time; i.e. I can probably get it for a very good price.

I also have a friend that is selling a 90 gallon.

So I'm wondering could I keep a golden puffer in the 90 gallon by itself. Or does it really need the 125?

Thanks

P.S. As you can see I've fallen for the puffer :(

I could resist it. It would be a second tank, and this guy would eat everything else:).

Now just have to work on the friend deal; if you know what mean.

Probably won't do since the wife wouldn't agree anyways.

Depends on the size but I would imagine a 90 is probably fine. There are only few that get huge. Bluezoo lists at 100, LiveAquaria is at 125. I've found BZ is more realistic in their sizing more often.

Most fish don't get anywhere close to maximum size like most humans aren't all NBA or NFL players.

I own 2 golden puffers and 1 guinea fowl puffer (same species), and I can say 90 is way too small. It's ok as a QT but not for long-term keeping.

Arothron meleagris is actually an active species, and mine roam around my 375g all day long and cover every square foot of area. They are also one of the bigger puffer species, and with proper husbandry will get to at least a foot long (mine are 9.5" and 8.5"). I wouldn't keep them in anything less than a 6-foot, 180g tank.

I have had many and many BIG ones over a foot. They dont get nearly as big as porcupines or burrfish but still are very large, and active. I wouldn't put them in less than a 150 long term and i still think that is small.

one of my favorite fish though.
