golfish's sps tank from days gone by

I've been looking for pictures of this tank for years. I finally found the old CD on Friday..It brings back the good old days for me.

150 gal, 48" long, 24" tall and 30" deep..IMO, the best size reef tank. I ran 3x400 watt MH's. Radiums on the end and an Iwaski in the middle. Lots of LR, DSB, Euro-Reef skimmer, Geo Ca Reactor and what I think was George's first Kalk reactor using an MJ powerhead. The tank was started in 1999 and taken down in 2003. I didn't dose a thing in this tank and for the most parts I used IO salt mix.

I have not been able to keep a coral alive since I moved in 03..

Its been a long time since I've been able to show off this tank..I wish I could find all the pictures.

Beautiful! Those were the good ol' days of sps ;)

RC lost my whole TOTM account, so I feel your pain.

:lmao:I had this tank but for some reason RC wanted my old 55 gal mixed reef to be TOTM. I think this was back in 2000, I didn't even have the 55then. I didn't look but somebody told me my old 55 isn't listed at a TOTM any longer. So I think that is lost like yours.

I had most all of the pix of the SPS tank on an AOL picture site, they shut that down without telling me.

You mean besides accomplished aquarists...

I seem to recall a northern brother that used to go by DougsReef:thumbsup:

I didn't think they had flat land in the north...

No, I don't know now...its been so long and I'm so old.....I mean tired

Ohhh. Thats was the name of my reef and tank thread, I think. I dont remember so good these days.

I did live in the north for 31 yrs, then moved south for a few and now out west in BC.

I have been looking at the pics trying to remember the tank shots. The urchin sure looks familiar. I remember several RC members having outstanding reef aquariums back then, yours being one. I believe we even had some discussions after you moved on some of the problems you were having.

Still have that 150g? I,m relegated to my 20g now. :hmm2:

Almost ten years later this is what still describes the makings of an awesome SPS tank.

Thanks for sharing those memories, and for leading the way for some of the rest of us.

:)
