Goniopora Care Question

My goniopora has this dead spot since I placed it in the display tank. I think I may have had some putty on my hands from other frags when I touched it.

Will this heal up?

it will eventually fill in once the coral is thriving..

This one does not look like it has much extension on its polyps at all . Mine extends a few inches off the rock base.. Very kewl but picky coral. you gotta keep Everything stable for this one.

That looks a bit better... still watch the polyps they should be open wide like a sunflower ...

i love mine and Its my first indication of something not right... but sometimes it just retracts for no known reason.....

I have tried in the past and never had luck. the one i have now is either more hardy or im doing something different that i cant put my finger on...Its likely because i spend more time watching my tank then touching it...
Good Luck

Sometimes you have to move them around a bit to get the flow right. Normally medium flow is best but one of mine likes it pretty strong.

I could never keep a Green Goni. The Brown for some reason appears to be a little more resilient but they are indeed a very hard coral. Stability and a very mature tank are what's needed for the long term. Some folks keep em and have no Problems. Think those are the exception.

The key is having food, moderate flow and adequate light in your tank to keep them. I have been keeping my green goniopora for more than 2 years since started 3 years ago. Most of the food they are getting comes from fine particles suspended in the water. Detritus is one of them. Occassional powder reef foods is a bonus. I don't have deep sandbed, constantly stirring the sand makes them happy. That is true as in the wild these corals lives in lagoon and high turbidity water. Very common coral back here.

I lost 5 gonipora before finally trying 2 alvepora. For all thst likes the Goni look try the alvepora. Lot easier to keep.
