those are wicked looking. does anything host them (i think my clown likes mine) and what luck have you had with them?

I do good with the red and purple also tan, they have actually grown insize. never had any luck with the green they always pass away.

They will likely die, and quickly, if you allow your clown to host in them.
Plenty of info in the LPS forum, but basically a VERY difficult coral to keep long term even for advanced and experienced reefers.

Ive heard they prefer higher nutrient systems. dirty water is their preferences.

Had this one for a year or two. Killed by clownfish. Primary food was cyclopeeze and oyster eggs.
Green one I've had for ~6 months or so now, ORA. They claim you don't need to direct feed them, and I haven't been. So far so good.

About 18 years ago I had a 30 gallon reef tank with a 400w monstrosity of a huge metal hallide bulb about 10 inches above the tank. We were all still learning a lot and I sure didn't know any better, so I bought a goniapora, an elegance, and a couple of softies. I forget if I had a clown in the tank. That tank stayed up for about 3+ years, until I moved and that goni was huge and wide open every day. I can't tell you why, but its a fair guess the nutrients were on the high side, the temprature was substantial, and the lighting was... well... a lot. If that helps answer any questions about what may keep them going, let me know... I would love to have another that big and happy.

No, I didn't feed phyto and I spot feed acans only when they're "new" or "fresh" frags. Once they start to encrust down onto the surface I don't bother.

I had a number of people shoot me PM's wondering how I fed my red goni, so here it is.
I would thaw cyclopeeze, oyster eggs, etc in a small container. I'd turn off all my flow and suck a bunch into a syringe or whatever you have handy. They key is to get as close to the polyps without blasting them too much so they retract. The smoother and easier working syringe the better. A turkey blaster so the food can just "fall out" works well also.
Here it was eating:

RokleM that looks alot like a gonniopora frag my LFS just got in, its covering a 1" frag disk for $65 and looks healthy. This sound like an OK deal to you? How long have you had that guy, looks like alot of growth.
