Goniopora coral

So i was at my lfs today and saw a beautiful yellow goniopora coral.i asked a staff member about them(what they eat,are they easy to take care of...)and he said most dont live past 6 months and that they require feeding more often then most corals,is this all true,i would really like to get the yellow goniopora,any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a blue and yellow. Blue is doing great, and yellow is not. The yellow one does not extend at all. And yes goniopora is a difficult coral. Some have great success, others don't. Mine has been in the tank for maybe 6 months,

I'll direct feed maybe once a week. I treat it like the rest of my corals. The yellow one has been getting some extra attention. And it is not dyed.

I've had multiple colors and they all did great for years, I currently have pink that I just fragged and it's doing great also, I do know there are different variations which some are harder to keep.

From a search it seems that the 'yellow' gonis are more a lime green (?)... which is why I asked if they were bright yellow... No pics of true yellows that aren't dyed. Any idea of where yours are from? Aussies?
I have wanted to try again to keep them (I gave up trying over 20 yrs ago), my lfs has nice size wild pieces available for $25-35... But the success stories are few and far between for wild (non aquacultured) pieces! And dyed ones seem doomed!

I got a yellow goni awhile back, it was definitely NOT dyed. Unfortunately it did not make it, despite me being very good with goniopora. I have multiple gonis that I've had ranging back to 4 years now. Green, lime green, blue, purple, red, pink, gold...the yellow was one of the very few that I was not able to keep alive (on average I can keep 90% of my goniopora alive, several 1+ years now, several going on 2+, several 3+, one 4+). If you want to start with gonis, I suggest ORA's red goniopora, by far the easiest one I've ever kept.

I also have some success with pink and red, reefroids, two little fishes goniopowder and phyto have worked best for me. Mature tank with refuge also helps.
I feed mine once a week with flow off for 5 to 10 min and direct feed
gonipora are hard to keep and need direct feeding

I highly recommend not trying yellow as your first goni. They are difficult enough even with 'easier' ones like the ora red goni.

I agree. I thought since my blue one was doing great I'd try another. Have not had any polyp extension and its slowing dieing. The yellow one has been much more difficult.
Anyone have any advice?

I bought a ora red and one called Reef Gen Justin Credabel's Green Goniopora from LiveAquaria a little over a month ago they've both opened up every day since I got them but the red goni extends really far while the green only extends about half that. They both look very healthy from what I can tell but I'm hoping someone can tell me if that is normal? I thought I read somewhere that different types of gonipora did this.

There are lots of species of goniopora, some extend like crazy, some hardly extend at all.
