I have a goniopora that my clowns just won't leave alone. It's almost a perfect hemisphere about 2-1/2 to 3" in diameter. I'll trade it for a nice zoa rock, torch, ricordias or ??? (I'm not an SPS guy)
No, not a beginners coral but it can be kept if you do your research. It needs to go into a well established aquarium with bright lighting and it needs to be fed occasionally. Treat it like an anemone.
Past failures may be due to people thinking it was a purely photosynthetic animal and as a result, having the specimen slowly starve to death.
