Goniopora ID/Question

Hello, all! I have a quick question. I was at the LFS the other day and couldn't help but to pick up a bright pink goniopora from the "BOGO-deal" tank despite all that I've heard about the coral. It seems to be more of an encrusting-type goni than what I've seen in the past, but I have heard that the red, encrusting types seem to be "hardier" than the green ones. Is anyone able to ID what species exactly it is?

ALSO.

I dipped the frag in Coral RX (everything gets a dip before going in) after getting home last night and the polyps haven't seemed to fully extend back out since placing it in the tank although I did catch them peeking out about halfway for the second half of today. I had it high up in my tank (20g nano with Current Marine LED bar) for the first half of the day, but when it was refusing to come out I actually moved it lower down toward the sandbed and it started to open up a bit so maybe it likes lower light? I'd always thought they preferred mid-high lighting. In the store, I did not see this because the little tendrils flopped over the edge of the skeleton, however one edge of the coral is a bit brown. It is directly along the right edge of the piece. I've heard of brown jelly, however have never dealt with it in my tank and this brown-ness doesn't look horribly gelatinous. Is this just a bit of injured skeleton from fragging that will grow back out, or should I be concerned and do dips etc?

Never start a new coral at the top of the tank, the sandbed is square one for new arrivals which is where that one needs to be. I have a similar goni near the top of my tank but it didn't get there overnight, first you need it open and healthy. I think mine took about 2 weeks to start really extending the polyps, but that was about 2 years ago and its been great since.

I would get some more flow across it if it were in my tank. And just give it time assuming all is well with water, light, temp, and flow.

Thank you!

Yesterday it stayed in the same half-closed state as before, but today it actually started to show some extension of the polyps and had a little feeding response when I went to feed some of the other corals. I will keep it just off the sandbed for the time being and let it adjust. I also have the LEDs set on the coral acclimation light schedule for the moment. (edit) It has medium flow over it right now; should it have more still?

Do you think the brown edge is something to be concerned about? It doesn't seem to have spread and the coral seems OK. I don't think it looks like brown jelly given the photos I've seen of it, but have never personally dealt with it.

The brown edge is or was die off. Could be simply from the cut, or a sign of death occurring currently with the animals.

Thank you! The goni is SUPER happy now and really starting to look great. I have toyed with the notion with dosing iron in the system, so maybe it is time. :)
