Good Deal on anemones?

I purchased 2 bubbletip anemones from someone who has a small setup. He originally had one and it kept splitting. He sold me the original one and on of the split ones for 60 bucks. They are around 6-7 inches in diameter when open. They are eating well and adapting well. I was just wondering if this was a good deal. I thought it was considering if you go to the lfs they are around 20-30 for them and they are pretty small. He fed them by hand without getting stung but I dont think I want to try that..

For a large one thats not bad , they are really expensive here in tallahassee, and most people dont have issues with feeding them by hand. i feed mine by hand everyweek.Do you have a Pic ?

I think that's a good deal. I purchased one locally produced RBTA clone for $60 last year, and it was only about 3" across.

I don't think you need to worry about getting stung. I used to hand-feed my anemone (taking care not to touch the tentacles) and it wasn't an issue.

Good Deal. The stung is more like the feeling you get when you pull off that really weak tape of your body.

I think you got a good deal for them. At my LFS I got mine for 50 on sale. But it is so rare for me to see some. If you contantly feed them they will split in no time and you can win back your money quickly.

i usually sell my rbta clones for 35-40. they go for 80-100 in stores here.

If it's brown. It's worth it.
If it's green, it's okay.
If it's RBTA, it's a pretty good deal.

In the 3rd pic its a little hard to see but the rock came with a little critter. Does anyone know what this is? In the pics, my tank is still a little cloudy from moving rocks. They are partially closed, they were a lot more open and bigger earlier, but naturally when I get my camera they decide not to cooperate, lol

Generally they will split on their own. There are ways to force split a BTA...but I prefer they do it on their own.

Those little critters would be aiptasia and are a pain to get rid off. If you can get the anemone on another rock and take out that rock so your tank won't get infested with them.

crap. Is there something I can buy that will eat those just in case they dont move. ALso, I saw a worm pop out of the rock. They guy told me it was a brittle worm. Are those bad to have?

Anemones have a very slow matabolism. When I used to feed mine it was only once a week. 1/4 of a shredded table shrimp was all I fed it and it grew pretty quickly. You should probably try feeding 3x a week. What have you fed your anemone?

I think if you are using a protein skimmer, doing your water changes, and using some filtration media like carbon/chemipure elite to keep your water in check you should be fine.

Feed once a week at most. BTA's get most of needed energy from Sunlight (photosynthesis). If you have clowns that host it, they should feed it for you when you feed them.

I would not feed more than once a week b/c you do not want to risk over feeding and causing a problem with ammonia.

They will split when they are ready, be patient.
