Good Enough for Chaeto and Razor grass?

Just purchased a small clump of Chaetomorpha and Razor Grass. Planning to use it to offset my Phosphate and Nitrate issues.

Question: Purchased a 25W incandescent clip light to light the fuge. Is this good enough light to keep the macro alive?

Thanks again guys!

Yes, it good enough to keep it alive.

IMO, though I would use a cheap 10-15W compact flourescent, they don't get as hot, they last longer and a stray splash from the fuge is less likely to shatter the bulb.

Thanks for the feedback - I actually just changed the config of the clip light to remove it from being over the open sump for fear that a splash would connect with the bulb an shatter it. It now rests beside the side wall of the sump and shines through the side into the fuge.

Thanks again!:fun4:

If you shine it through the side you're going to have a mini alegie boom in that spot and the light will be blocked out...

id say it MAY keep them alive, but probably not. Incandescent bulbs are run too hot, lack correct spectrum and intensity (see: inefficiency) to grow any plants, except bad algae. Go to walmart, homedepot, etc and get a 15-27 watt outdoor compact fluorescent ( built in reflector) and put that over your macro algae plants, it will grow them great. i use 2700k bulbs and my chaeto goes grows awesome. the higher the wattage of cfl bulbs, the better your growth and the more they can uptake nutrients.

Most people run 6,500K bulbs, I know we do. The issue is the heat, the more light the faster the growth, but you get more heat. I'd go with a 6500K CF, if it doesn't grow you'll just have to up the wattage.
