good first anemone

random i have two very healthy BTA in my 20l that has a 6 inch DSB and 50 lbs of rock the totall water volume is probobly 8 gallons of saltwater. and they are very healty.

a mature tank and stabil parameters will help incredibly also try and find a BTA clone from an anemone that is know to split often and stay small.

It is a 20 gal hex tank with only 1 10 flourescent watt bulb. Alot of light though. You guys have been very helpful but i need some help with the abbreviations. (BTA, etc.). Remember i am the newbie and I need lots of help understanding this stuff. :worried2:

BTA = Bubble Tip Anenome

BTW (By the way)... are you saying that you have one (1) Ten watt light on this tank? If so, I dont think thats going to be enough light to keep any kind of anenome (or anything else for that matter)

Sorry to jump into your thread, I have a 50watt cp and was wondering is there any anemone that would be ok to keep in a 45g?

Anemones have photosynthetic zooxanthellae (symbiotic algae) which keep them healthy and supplied with food. They need at least power compact lighting [redacted]; t-5's and metal halides to make them really happy. Anemones will probably either die on 10 watts or will bleach totally and need to be fed often to stave off starvation.

go to google & look up power compact/very high output/t5/metal halide light systems for saltwater aquariums. i personally have a VHO system & my green bubble tip is doing fine so far.

you gotta consider a anemone like a plant. w/o 100 watt+ lighting for it, it will not get enough food & die. read up on the faq on this forum. i found alot of good knowledge from reading it about 3x.

A bta will do just fine in a 20 gallon.. I have had a green in a 20 gallon for years and well now there are two... Special care need to be taken though like covered up power heads because BTA will find it for sure in a small tank...

But you need more lighting for sure. Mine love t-5 lighting.

BTA bubble tip anemone (E. quadricolor)

my light fixture only houses a 12" bulb. I can't find anything.
Get a new fixture.... or change your stocking list.

Keep in mind that these creatures we keep are from the tropical areas of the world... where there is the greatest intensity of sunlight. Your efforts should be spent in an attempt to re-create nature as much as possible.

A 10W bulb is simply not going to cut it. To put things in perspective.... I have 12W of moonlight on my 30 gallon tank (300W of light in the daytime)
