Good idea or bad; mixing LED & MH

I want to replace a 400w MH with a Vortech Radion and keep using the 2 250w MH on each side. It would be under a vented hood on a 180, it gets warm but not too hot underneath. Is this a bad idea. I can't pay to change the whole system to LED at one go and want to see it in action first before changing the whole thing.

Sounds like a perfect idea to me. That way you get an opportunity to test it against your MH lights one on one. Report back and let us know how your corals respond! I'm still not sure LED's are there yet myself.

Yeah I dont see any reason why this would be a bad idea. The only negative is their might be a color difference between the areas of the tank, but the I think it is worth it to see if you like the fixture before shelling out for several of them.

Thanks for the replies, I'll be ordering in a few weeks and will snap some pictures. There's alot of light overlapping from the 2 250's so it won't be a realistic test but we'll see...
