I was thinking about getting a mantis to put in my aquapod 12. I was just wondering what would be a good canidate. also what is the care like for them. I have read that some are very hardy and some are not. also how would you keep the tank clean if they eat your hermits and snails and sometimes your hand. I would be worried about excessive algae growth. thanks for any answers.

you can feed them ghost shrimp but try and gut load them with fish food flakes that are high in nutrients

As for cleaning get a mag float because your only stupid if you reach in a tank that small with a mantis in it, also they will eat your cleaning crew but it will take them awhile just slowly keep adding more and try to keep it fed on the ghost shrimp

as for a good mantis to keep in a tank like that i would have to say a N. wennerae or a G. Smithii would be the most common and best choices, you can get the wennerae from tampabaysaltwater.com or sometimes they have exotic looking stomatopods on liveaquaria.com in the divers den section
