I purchased a skimmer body the other day.. 6" od 24" tall.. set up for venturi but works pretty crappy thinking of getting a needle wheel pump for it and up the performance a bit.. it has a 1" drain.. what would be a good pump to use for this.. or a good pump i can mesh mod cheaply or something like that???

thanks

gen-x is a bit loud but will perform pretty well without a lot of mods. I pull 10+ LPM with my oceanrunner 2700 with meshmod...

Aquaclear 802... 400-480lph for 12 watts

Quiet One 3000 also comes to mind, just depends on the neck diameter really.

What are the upper limits on the Aquaclear or quiet one 300 and what types of mods are necessary? I have a 6" square bodied beckett skimmer that I would like to convert to recirculating needlewheel?

what model genx pump should i look for???

Likely a Gen-X 4100. A 2400 will probably be too small, and you can always dial the air down a bit with the 4100 if it's too much.

ok thanks.. do i have to mesh mod those? best place for them?

looking for the cheapest pump... this is a back up only

here is a pic of it

i am getting a 4" union for the neck and will be getting a 1 or 1.25 gate valve for it.. i would be able to make it a recirc model if i need too.. think i should keep the output 1" or make it 1.25"?? thanks

Looking at needlewheel pumps myself. Building a recirculating skimmer. I'm leaning toward a Sedra 500 at aquarium guys for $98.99. Want to be sure and get a venturi with it. Several NW pumps, including the GenX, don't show one and that could cost an extra $20, unless I make my own.
