Ok

I have heard enough, STOP using tap water! If you cant afford it then maybe a freshwater tank is more for you. You owe it to the animals you keep to do your part and provide the correct environment.

As for the ick thing, read the articles. You need to leave the fish out of your display for a least the entire life cycle and then some to be sure and remember that 30 days is a good minimum, not all of the ich is at the same stage. That is the ONLY way to keep it from coming back.

Again as everyone here has told you, SLOW DOWN. You owe it to your animals and your wallet.

6 weeks minimum in QT In my opinion, and also you need to have your display running fallow (fishless) for the minimum 6 week time period as well. Otherwise you're fish will just become reinfected as soon as you add them back to the display. (Actually 12 weeks would ensure 100% eradication).

To be 100% safe you would have to go 12 weeks. Ich has never been documented to live longer than 11 weeks without a host. In the vast majority of cases though, it doesn't live longer than 4 weeks without a host, which is why you see 6 weeks as the safe recommendation.

That quote is from this thread:

How long must a tank remain fishless

Buck, you do need to relax a little bit I think. I understand your frustration, but RO water isn't going to magically fix all of the problems going on here, nor is it, in my opinion, the main problem. I have kept a successful reef tank for 2 years with tap water and phosban with no adverse effects to my animals. I've moved away from it now, for ease and to try to get even better quality water.

Personally, I don't think you let the tank cycle enough before adding a lot of livestock. Moving the rock from another tank still has the rock experiencing a lot of die off. I would guess that phosphates from feeding heavily, nitrates from the move, and the lack of RO water are all contributing to your slime algea problem. If you take measures to slow down, let the tank cycle, and just let it go for a while, then you will be fine. Cutting your light cycle back for a few weeks won't hurt. Keeping your animals in QT for 6 weeks will help a lot. Just slow everything down, and everything will get how you want it to be...a lot of this hobby is about being patient and diligent. You'll get it, just let it all slow down.

Matt - I understand where Buck is coming from and I agree with him. Quite frankly, numerous people have given you advice over the past few months and the one constant was always SLOW DOWN / PATIENCE. I must have said this myself half a dozen times - but you never listened. Hence, I had stopped even bothering to post on your threads until now.

Personally I could care less how you burn thru whatever money you do have, after all the old saying goes a fool and his money is soon parted. But as Buck correctly pointed out, you owe it to the animals to do things the right way

Look on this thread alone. Your first post says you will keep the fish in QT a week. Tswifty posted 2 excellent links that if you read them, you would see that a week isn't even close. And how do I know you didn't read them - because you came back and said, ok, you will QT them for a week and a half when the minimum QT period is far greater than that.

Look, I know I am being harsh but IMO you deserve it. People have been more than willing here to give you advice but you continue to ignore it. Please don't take the advice people give you here so lightly. Please take the time to do some research on your own. Please go out and invest in a few good saltwater hobbiest books and read them before you continue to throw good money after bad. The way you are going now, if you don't change you will be back daily posting new problems. this is for your own good - please listen

I may be hard but come on here.... we keep telling you to slow down down and do some research.

And this is a forum, not a cell phone. You cant take shortcuts in setting up a reef and Im tired of reading text message jargon on your posts. We speak English here, not text message. Your seventeen, type like you were taught.

Take what we say with a grain of salt. Some of the things we say sound harsh, but I know I personally rushed into my first tank and thankfully I had very few problems, and I was thankful of the criticism I received from others. I did however learn a great deal from the guys on this forum. Research and patience are the two keys to having a successful reef tank.

We are all pulling for ya buddy.

I think that's the right way to approach this situation now Matt, but please, listen to everyone else. I also understand where they are coming from, and am frustrated that you haven't taken the advice that was very freely offered to you until now.

However, I do feel that we owe it to the animals to try to help Matt, even now, and should try to offer whatever advice we can, in hopes that he will follow through on it this time around.

Matt, please take the advice that has been given to you. There doesn't need to be any additions until you get everything together...After all, as the saying goes...Rome wasn't built in a day :)

ok buck maybe you should think befor you say something about my typing did you ever once think that i may have a hard time with spelling or something else did you ever once think that there might be a little difculty in english class for me did you ever once think that maybe people are all diffrent in how they do stuff soryy im not perfect buck..........
