Found this guy (survived a 15 min Bayer dip btw, when all others died) on an A. Secale mini colony I have. Is furry, not sure if good or bad, dark carapace, maybe has banded legs. Difficult to tell. Bad?
Thanks. I saw it picking at the colony and I noticed the polyps were closed so I picked it off. Didn't know if it was eating dead tissue or irritating the coral

It was eating the live coral tissue, nasty little buggers. If I spot them I usually use the fine bone cutters I use for fragging to get into the acros branches to shred the litttle buggers, such a satisfying feeling when you finally crunch its body with those cutters. Hairy almost always means = baddie. Also blue eye color= usually bad acro crab. Beneficial acro crabs are pretty much always smooth and their eyes are dark color/ black.
I always do my best to try and keep beneficial acro crabs though as I am a firm believer they help with pests and have a symbiotic relationship with the coral and help contribute to the corals success.
I had two good acro crabs that came on wild colonies that I bought from my lfs. One died a few months later but still have the other one. He recently moved to a new coral and two days after he moved the coral he used to live in is now loosing tissue. Wierd thing it's in the same spot of the acro that he mainly stayed. I'm thinking that he blocked the light from getting to that part so now it is bleaching. Hope it lives.
