Good power strips?

Anyone have any recommendations for a good power strip, as the title suggests? I'm looking for one with a lot of outlets, preferably with on/off switches on each outlet. Of course a good surge protection too..
Went to Staples today and they had some decent ones but none had the ability to turn on and off each outlet separately.

Many are using the American DJ strip like this..
https://www.amazon.com/American-Pc-...05503&sr=8-1&keywords=american+dj+power+strip

And don't forget... ALL submerged line powered equipment MUST be protected by GFCI functionality.. Equipment/seals DO fail and you could be electrocuted if you do not follow that..

You can either replace the current wall outlet with a GFCI one and then plug your power strip into that or purchase a GFCI device that plugs into the wall then your strip plugs into that or replace the branch circuit breaker with one with GFCI protection..

I just threw this one on my wifes nano tank.. All my other tanks I change out the outlets ..http://www.homedepot.com/p/Defiant-GFCI-5-Outlet-Adapter-30339037/203741442

You may want to look into DJ power strips, they have individually switched outlets like you are looking for. I'm not sure if they have surge protection however.

Edit- Mcgyvr beat me to it with a better reply lol

+1 on GFCI protection - I have GFCI-protected strips at home, but not on my small office tank. Guess who got electrocuted by a malfunctioning heater this weekend....

I was lucky it was minor, and it's my own fault for not having GFCI-protected strips on my office tank. First thing I did after shutting down power and removing the faulty equipment was place an order on Amazon so that doesn't happen again.

Make sure to test those plug in gfci types with power outages. Flip your breaker to test it out. I've used some in the past that pop when there's a power outages and need reset again after the power is restored. I've used some that don't do that too. Not an issue in a workshop but for a tank it would be.

Dj power strip is beyond huge. Triplite makes a 7 outlet with individual breakers for 6 of them. Same size as a normal power strip.

How big are djs? Are they better for plug in transformers/converters?

What about those strips with the 7 day timers? I've been curious because I may like to have a surge powerhead and turn the fuge light off.

I could see the benefit if you don't have something like an Apex for the DJ strip since it looks nice and can be mounted, but the tripp-lite would be the way to go if you want everything tucked away with surge protection.

+1 on the dj power strip. I love it. I mounted mine inside the stand and above the door. Makes life a lot easier.

I bought the DJs as well and trying to mount inside my stand behind the door. But for the life of me could not figure out how.
Coz the buttons come in the way of the door when I shut it and it turns them off. Can you share some pics.
Wanted to see how you mounted them.

I'm guess since they have slots for screws at the ends you put that on the opening of the door, the jamb, letting the switch protrude into space the door closes into.

Go in about 1/2 inch beyond the opening. Of course there is nothing to mount to. Put a couple blocks up mounted to the tank. Then screw the DJs into them.

I'll take some pics later and post them. I made a simple 3 sided box to hold the dj strip and mounted it with L brackets to the stand. It makes water changes and swapping out components so much easier.
