Good pump for this skimmer?

I have one of these skimmer sitting around doing nothing. I was thinking about making it a recirculating skimmer. I no longer have the pump that goes with it so I need a replacment. I have heard that there are huge differences between pump brands when it comes to skimmer use. It would need to have a 3/4" male outlet. Also, should the skimmer be fed from the top or bottom?

I would try a Gen X 2400 if that's not too big. I'd try the Needle Wheel version for the finest bubbles. I know there are better needle wheel pumps out there, but there are also better skimmers available too.

If you wanted to simply use the pump that is suggested for this skimmer I believe this skimmer uses a Via Aqua VA 2300 Pump .

This skimmer is fed from the top where the bend is in the pipe, just above the pump:

When I said where should the skimmer be fed I ment the pump that would feed the skimmer water not the one that was recirculating water through it (though the question itself was about the recirculating pump not the feed pump).

OH ... sorry, I just didn't see 'recirc' when I read it the first time.

I imagine it would be best to draw from down low and shoot the water back in just about the height of the tube in the center.
