Another one is Aquatic Central on Ocean avenue, close to 24hr Fitness. Not much selection at this time.
The new owner just took over and is expanding the saltwater/coral section. He's going to dedicate the lower level to salt. He mentioned that he'll soon try to carry more advanced drygoods such as Tunze. All in all he promised that the store will be a lot better in a couple of months.

Aquatic Central that's the name of the place I was trying to forget that name, I bought 2 tuxedo urchins, introduced them to my tank without QT (hey they're inverts....) unfortunately they were sharing water with tanks that had fish in it... I had some disease wipe out a great deal of my fish. Tomato clown (the mate of my original), Naso tang, Kole Tang, couple chromis, and those that survived had what looked like "ich" like symptoms, hell the cleaner shrimp were going double duty on them. And the urchins were the only explaination.

Hope they really change things around.

:eek1:

How long ago was this? I was there a few weeks ago on a Sunday and they had the cleanest tanks of the lfs I've been to. I was looking forward to buying some livestock when they have more selection.

Exactly the problem, but only when said inverts are in tanks with fish.

From what I've learned inverts should be isolated from verts in a LFS.

being in separate tanks doesn't mean that they don't share the same water. It's better if stores runs UV to kill (waterborne) parasites.

Using Uv is hard to kill parasites... YOu have to slow the flow down so much.... I was running my 50w at around 120 gph and that was doing it OK.....

Well that's what I meant by "separate tanks" is they don't share the same water supply.

yikes, sorry for the loss (can't say it's never happened to me). on a good note, i will definitely be running fish only/invert only systems, and will be running ozone on the fish only systems, to boot. i know all too well the woes of getting "bunk" live stock. i've learned already though that it's very hard to keep infallible sytems, due to the continuous in/outflux of fish (of course it's impossible to quarantine every specimen on the retail level). well, i'm still a hobbyist too, so, while i can't promise anything, i will definitely be giving it the "college try".

Why? Is this something learned from working or running a LFS, or something you've observed while shopping @ a LFS? I beg to differ on that one. Some fish need a "reef" environment in a store, they do much better in non copper/ near NSW levels. Take freshly imported Royal Grammas for instance. They typically come in at MUCH high salinities then hobbyists are used to (1.030). If you "acclimate" them straight to FO systems, they don't do so hot.

good point. i have also read that most fish do thrive in much higher salinities than hobbyist are accustomed to keeping their tanks at. so i guess in the case of the grammas, they would theoretically be just as stressed in the lower salinity, as we anticipate other fish to be in higher salinities?
