good shop for clams?

Is there a good local shop for finding nice clams (reasonable prices would also be nice!)?? I havent been to many shops in the area at all, but I have seen a few okay looking clams for $80... that is a little unreasonable IMHO for a solid blue or purple crocea...

I will be headed up towards Mundelein (from Plainfield) this weekend so if there is anything that is on the way that would be cool.

Rod usually has some nice Croceas, last one I bought from him was 40 dollars, and the Maximas are a little more, but call ahead before you would make the trip out to make sure he has some, and is open.

Reef Plus in N Aurora had some nice one's for $39.

I was there yesterday and he has few, look nice, always reasonably priced. Sharky's reef usually keeps a good selection as well.

Also IMHO, I went for the price "specials" on the internet and at LFS and know regret it. One clam that I got cheap looks great and is huge. But most of the others are bland for $35 to $40. When it comes to clams, I do beleive you get what you pay for. Now in retrospect, I would easily go to a LFS and buy a $80 or even $120 for a killer colored clam. If you only going to have a couple of clams, wait it out until you see that ONE that poops your eyes out and then break out the second morgage

I'll third in for Sho-Tank. I was there a week ago and he had enough clams for a clam bake. Too pretty to cook though.

I was in Mundelein yesterday and looked for the shop but couldnt find it. I saw the sign.. .but could not find the shop. Is the shop hidden away some place?? Or are we just blind? I will probably be that way again soon.

You may have seen the sign for the old shop. Matt moved about 1 block south on 45 (same side of the street) to roughly the corner of Hawley and rte 45.
