I currently run the Alpha 200 on my 250, and actually think its to big.

Nyos Quantum 220 for up to 500 gallons $800
Vertex Alpha 250 for up to 450 gallons $1,300
AquaC EV 400 for up to 400 gallons $480+$130 for Jebao DCP 10, 000 = $610
Most of the new needle wheel skimmers look and function very well but, after a few years when they are updated you can end up with an outdated model that might need a pump replaced after 2-5 years if you are lucky. You are looking to spend $600+ for a skimmer. I have been through many brands of skimmers and have found that what many consider outdated technology is still working 18-20 years later. If I spent upwards of $600+ it better be for something that will last.

I am running a Simplicity 540dc on my 240 and I love it. Very powerful, durable, and quiet. Easy to tune-in.

That alpha 250 is WAY too big. The necks on one skimmers are huge, thus requiring a massive massive fish load.
I run the Bubble King double cone 200 on my 240 with 30 fish in it and it doesn't eve break a sweat to keep up. The alpha 250 is even a larger skimmer. These skimmers are conservative in their ratings. So that 450 gallon is probably a heavy load. Maybe 50+ fish. Something to consider.
