The big 300g show tank suffered stand failure and cracked last night. They lost it all. July has been rough. Hang in there guys.

***, talk about bad luck. If anyone from SEA reads this I would be glad to build you a quality stand at little to no cost, you guys have always hooked me up. I have built a stand for a 125,240,300, and 450 and they look wayyyyy better then any commercially available stand I have ever seen so far. LMK

That is one of my nightmares, after seeing SEA's troubles I even called my homeowners ins company to see if they would insure my system. They do not......jerks.
They do insure the equipment but not the thousands in livestock in my 180.

Im looking in to getting a standby generator after all the horror stories I heard this month. Im looking at about 1400 bucks, sucks but I would be an utter mess if I lost my fish. I have had some these guys since I got into the hobby about 3 yrs ago.

Im sorry to hear that happened, best wishes to the guys and SEA

Michael has always been great on customer service....

You could get a small genny at harbor freight for less than $200. It only needs to run a couple times a year. China can manage that.
Plus your NRA magazine's have 20% off coupons.

Im never home though and If my power went out I may not be there to start it. The stanby types turn on by themselves in the event of a power outage, and they are ALOT more expensive. Would there be a way to rig up some sort of relay on a cheap electric start generator to make it start by itself?

The expensive part it the automatic start. If you run a gen and just hook up the output to an outlet it will power the whole house, make sure you flip the main breaker so you are not powering the whole block.
I've seen those computer batt back-ups hooked in series with a larger batt, such as a marine batt. This will come on automatically and recharge. You could run some power heads or something for O2 for days.

Yeah I was looking at the batteries, that may be an option. wayyy cheaper

Dam, hope they caught it early, thats a mess to clean up. They'er due for some good luck, they've been hit bad this month.

Tunze or the Vortex can be set up on battery back up, that's all you need till you get home to crank up the Gen.

Please don't back feed a Genrator, it's illegal and might kill a lineman trying to get your power back on. Could also burn down your house. If you don't want to run the line straight from the generator to you stuff, get a transfer panel. I have one with 6 breakers, 3 pos breaker, up=line, center=off and down=Generator. I crank up gen and flip the switches and run the whole house (70 amp gen)

Really sorry to hear about the latest troubles. If there is anything I can do all you need do is ask and I will do my best. You have been there for me when I have needed help so it is only just that your friends be there for you.

Great idea I need to upgrade my powerheads anyway.
