Goodbye clown trigger

Bummer you have to give one away. I usually tend to favor the established fish when a situation like this arises, but I can understand you keeping the emp. Hopefully the clown will find himself in good hands.

sounds like you need an angel tank AND a trigger tank.

That's what I'm saying.

This is something that everyone needs a plan for. I don't think it's a bad idea to trade in your fish when they get too large or don't fit in, as long as you have a plan.

If nothing else, some of my fish are big enough to eat, so if I cant trade them in, I can always have a sushi night.

Of course, I've treated my tank with 2 different medications so I guess that isnt an option now

I agree pinktail trigs are cool, but get a bit boring in color after a while.

Yeah, as far as triggers go, pinktails arent the most colorful.

I've got an ugly example of the species as well, so it's drabber and plainer than most

I guess that makes up for most of my other triggers being gorgeous!

I got a visit from our friendly LFS owner today to finish my closed loop system on my new tank, and you'll never guess the "great new fish that would be 'perfect' for my tank" that he just got in.

No kidding! He tried to sell me your clown trigger.

Unfortunately I had to tell him "no". I have reciently acquired a stray from my boss' wife. A beautiful 3" humu who was *gasp!* eating her damsels, and had to go.

All of my new additions are hanging out in the 180 waiting for the big tank to get set up

You should buy the clown trigger He is a great fish, didnt bother a single other fish but really didnt like the emperor angel for some reason. All my other fish, including ones much smaller than him, he never bothered. The only fish he has ever even looked dirty at is the humu and that's because the humu actively irritated him for a while. Otherwise, it was only the angel that he hated. I'm surprised he never bit him, there was never any chunks missing or bared teeth, it was all just tail to tail whacking off. Hmmm, probably the only time I can use whacking off on Reef Central and not get modded

Not that the clown would be a good fit for your tank, I'm not sure what you plan on having in there...

He showed me pictures on his iPhone of your closed loop setup, looks like it is really coming along, that is great.

Just having his golden puffer is enough. It is a GREAT fish--but definately not reef/coral safe.

He hasn't touched the mushrooms, but anything witha little crunch...
I had an ugly piece of favia brain and a candy cane in the 180 left over from the guy I got it from. They were gone within the first 5 minutes he was in there. I had to move fast to save the chalice. 5 minutes from acclimation to coral-less tank. *sigh*

No--the clown can stay where he is, but if you ever want to get rid of the niger....

That sucks about the puffer, he sure never cared much for my corals. Like I said, each piece had one bite out and then he never did it again, but maybe your corals taste better

Maybe you need to feed him more, keep him full and he wont sample everything? Just an idea, although it seems to me once fish get a taste for corals they dont normally quit.

Is he slowly getting more golden color back or is he that brownish/gray on top?

You never know, I'm not enjoying a pure trigger tank as much as I was at one point, the niger might be up for sale one day if I need to make room for some big angel

If I fed him any more he would pop! It is so much fun to feed them, I'm afraid I go a bit overboard.

He didn't eat the corals. He chewed them up and spit them out. I think I saw the same smile on his face that kids get when they rip pages out of books or unroll entire rolls of toilet paper.

No change in color yet.

Those triggers look good. Its just sad to hear that they would be replaced by other fish. What will the LFS do with the clown? Sell it? I hope someone who is good as you takes care of it. But if it were me, I wouldnt let go of the old fish.

Yeah, the LFS is selling the clown.

I have no problem with letting go of old fish if there is a good reason for it. I've got 5 triggers in my tank which I knew I'd have to eventually thin down. The trigger was beating on an angelfish I really like, so he was the natural one to go since I was planning on removing a couple triggers within a year or two anyway.

Is the pink something clown triggers develop with age? Is it all clowns that have the pink or just some?

I'm not 100% sure on that. I cant say I've ever seen a large HEALTHY clown that didnt have pink on it's tail and fins, but that might just mean I have a bad memory OR I've only ever seen exceptional clowns
