Googly the mantis shrimp video... The crab tried to get away...

So happy we have other mantis keepers in the valley! Me and my buddy brad just got into keeping them.

I've just finished cycling my 6.2g Micro-Reef tank for a Neogonodactylus oerstedii, and Brad has a Gonodactylaceus ternatensis in a PicOAquariums PicO III.

My 2g temperate system will have a squilla mantis, as soon as CWMA catches one!

Is yours plumbed into your main system as a sump? I see some macro in there, what else are you keeping? Brads being brave, keeping a damsel and clown in his. I'm thinking dragons breath and xenia for mine.
 
I have a 20g CPR Fuge plumbed into the main display. Its made of acrylic so its a perfect home for him. He does allow a few hermits to live with him. His previous owner had a damsel in with him but I havent added a fish. He is in there with a brown cucumber and have been just fine for a long time together. The cucumber was in there first so Im not sure if that made a difference. Googly is a G.T. too. I just love him! He has been a great little friend to have. I keep various macro's in there and he loves chaeto. Just befor every molt he will take al the chaeto and plug up his holes and hide out for weeks at a time. For whatever reason al my chaeto has dissapeared. He likes to molt after kiling a crab so I need to get him some chaeto. :)
Well between that nem and mantis you have excellent taste in critters! I will have to check them out one day.
 
Some species are more interactive then others. I can't speak for a GT because I don't own one, but the best resource for mantis information is Dr Roy Caldwell. He has a website hosted through Berkeley called Roy's List - it's invaluable if you're looking into getting one!

There is also a mantis forum here on RC & Dr. Roy visits it regularly and always offeres advice if you post ?'s

Glad my video made your day, I agreed to love him and take good care of him in my contract. I told the girl that he was going to be mantis food, she still wanted me to sign it anyway I was laughing the whole time I read it. it was almost like we were getting married or something... I promise to love, honor, and cherish said pet in sickness and in health. I promise to take the pet to the vet if necessary and do whatever I can to save its life. LOL.... normally I'm all good with those things when it comes to owning a pet... but this was not going to be a pet... :sad2:
