Gordonian

I picked up a small chunk of gordonian (I think that's what it was called) from LFS. It's a green plant type of thing. Sorry, I'm new at this.

Anyway, I comes out in the morning, but it's retracted by the time I get home from work. I think one of my fish are pecking at it, but don't know which one.

Here's what I have in the 75g tank:

false perc clown
yellow wrasse
coral beauty dwarf angel
firefish
sailfin blenny
green mandarin
cleaner shrimp
peppermint shrimp
snails and small hermits

I'm pretty sure it's either the yellow wrasse or the coral beauty. I have a 55g with only a 16" sf eel in it. I can put one or both of them into that tank if that will solve this problem. I'd like to start getting into more of the soft corals, so I need to solve this problem.

Any suggestions? I don't want to take out all my rock to catch the wrong fish. I'd like to do this once since it's such a pain to take out all the LR.

Thanks

gorgonian's are tough to keep. Unless its a photosynthetic on, the have a slim chance of survival for long. They need multiple feedings per day. Can you post a pic to try to id it? There are hundreds out there.

I'll try to get a pic, but it's retracted right now. I can't find much on google.

The LFS said all it needs is light to survive. He said before too long it will start covering my rocks and need to be trimmed. It is deep green on the tips and gets lighter green as it goes down towards the purple part. They are about an inch long. There are little bumps where it is retracted into. Basically a purple slab with bumps. The green plant part comes out of the bumps when I turn on the lights in the morning.

Is it gordonian or gorgonian? I should have paid more attention when I bought it.

What exactly is this?

Should I remove one or more fish from this tank or wait awhile longer and see how it goes?

Thanks

Thanks for the I.D. It's nice my LFS actually knows what they are selling me :mad2:

Should I not worry about the fish pecking at it? Doing a quick search, they look very hardy.

I would indeed worry about fish pecking at it if you want it to thrive. I do not know how you are going to keep the peckers (no pun intended) from it but I've had GSP's totally destroyed by fish.

Thanks. I'll keep looking. These fish seem to be like my kids. Don't do anything wrong until ya turn your head away for a second!

It could still be acclimating to your lights. They may be brighter than what it's used to. Try moving it lower in the tank for a few days.
