We recently rescued a purple gorgonian that was about to be disposed of in a shop near us; it's got a bit of damage on one stalk but the remainder of the tissue is healthy so we thought we'd cut the damaged part out... We don't know what kind of gorg it is; we've narrowed it down to being either the 'purple candelabra' Plexaura flexuosa, or the 'colourful sea whip' Leptogorgia virgulata. Anybody know the best way to tell the difference??? I'd put a picture up but can't find the camera! The flesh is a very deep rich purple and polyps are also purple although not as dark as the flesh if that helps.
