gorgonian

I stopped by Eddies today to trade in some chaeto and I spotted a gorgonian growing on a piece of live rock so I snagged it. It's got some erosions (which isn't surprising considering where I got it) but I think its the same species as the one that some of you have (jallard toyotaguy) I remember frags going around awhile ago...

Does anyone know what species it is? It came in on some carribiean live rock so I'm sure its an atlantic species.

On a completely unrelated note. If anyone doesn't mind dropping a c note on a coral or has someone they'd like to split it with there is a breathtaking purple/blue encrusting montipora there.

What size is the monti? Large enough for say.......4-5 people? I'm sure you know where I'm going with that one.

BTW, what does Eddies typically give you for chaeto? I usually toss mine, but it might be worth a trip up.

I had a bucket-full

Matt gave me $25 credit

I wouldn't suggest splitting the monti into more than two or three pieces. Its too nice.

Possibly the gorg they got from me?

Possibly, I wasn't in on that order. Know anything about it? This thing was firmly cultured to a piece of TBS liverock. Matt chipped the knob it was growing on off for me. It's cool, has big fleshy brown polyps which made me think it might be photosynthetic, HecK for pulling it out of a liverock bin it was a find either way.

If it is a tan one, it might be photosynthetic. The ones we got from Gary are like that. Mine has encrusted and grown slowly.

spoke about it at the meeting, can you snap a pic ? I'll be able to give a on-spot decision as to it's survivability rather than speculate ;)

OK this took me a while
Here is the living part polyps extended

Here is the whole colony closed. It is eroded from the holdfast to the first branch and in the middle of one of the branches

Finally here is the holdfast
