Got a Flameback angel today

What a great fish! Very active. He's only about an inch long and I was shocked at how well it held it's own. It fended off my 3" purple dottyback and drove it away!! I think it's officially staked it's claim in the tank now. At first, it was even trying to start something with my female (much larger) maroon clown. I couldn't believe the guts this fish has. It's only been in the tank a few hours and it did eat. It's been at the pet shop for over a month so it's used to people and healthy. I'll post a pic later.

Who else has one and how long have you had it?

Just took some quick pics. They aren't very good but here it is:

His tail got bit up a little while I was gone. The clowns are completely leaving it alone and it looks like it's come to a draw with the dottyback. They keep a close eye on eachother.

It's an African flameback angel. I have one also, very cool fish, I've been looking for one about the size you mentioned to see if I could pair them up.

Since your from IL, where did you get it? How much? Did they have any more about that size?

Here's a pic of mine, I've had it about 4 months bought it from Liveaquaria.

G13: Wow! That's a beautiful fish. Great pic. Thanks for the info. Is it really that orange? I take it they lose the yellow color as they mature?

I'm on the far west side of the state. I got it at a LFS down in Davenport, Ia. It was the only one they had and I think they've had it at least a month. It was 60.00. I guess nobody was interested in it. Kind of suprising for how many people go through the place.

I actually had went there looking for a cherub but they didn't have one so I decided to just get this guy. I think I like this one better now. :)

When I recieved it, it was a lighter orange color don't know if it's a maturity thing but your angel looks yellow. I like the look of your angel and the price you paid was actually pretty good. I've seen them at LFS for $80+ that is why I purchased it online. The african flameback is definetly a better choice than the cherub angel IMO but they are as aggressive as the cherub. Even though they might be smaller in size they don't back down as easily.

Everything I've seen sold as a flameback has been yellow, I've never seen one with the orange back. I always wondered why they were called flamebacks but were yellow. Maybe it is an age thing.

My cherib was $17 at my lfs and isn't bullied by anyone in the tank. I do like the flamebacks though, both yellow and especially the orange.

Nice fish!

Well the description on liveaquaria when I purchased did describe them as orange and a dark blue in color.

Maybe it's my lighting? 250W of phoenix 14K's

I've seen the brazilian flameback colored yellow but vessxpress1
has an african because of the light yellow tail. Brazilians have the dark blue color tail.

I have two A. Flamebacks and both have the orange back. I think I am going to attempt tp put them together in my 150.
Has anyone kept two together?

So you have them in seperate tanks? If so they might both be the same sex (don't know which but I think the male is the most dominant). They would probably go after each other, I heard that angals change from f to m but can change back if the situation suits for it to happen, not sure though.

Keep us updated if you try.

I have one in my 150 and the other is in the refugium for now. The one in the 150 is in with a flame angel and they get along fine.
