i am stuck on what kind of return pump to use and the benefits of each type.

i have a mag 24 . it would be used as a submersible in sump return pump. i have been told that they produce heat and that it could affect the temp in the tank. i have also used this pump to mix up salt water and was kinda loud.

i have been thinking about going with an external pump like the gen-x pcx-55. this pump is not submersible and i would have to run it externally. to do this i would have to drill my sump which is going to be a standard 75 gallon tank.

i would like to know what would be best to do rather it would be better to do an in sump return pump or the external pump. i am going to need alot of help and i know that i am in the right hands here!

thanks mike

I use a pan world 150ps as the return on my 210, I also used a standard 75 as my sump. you could certainly go smaller on the pump, but not bigger then that.

the eheim 1262..... i think i would prefer this pump as it is submersible. how loud is this pump? if it is anything like my mag 24 it will wake up the neighbors.

My Eheim is virtually silent. I honestly can't hear it at all while it is in the stand.
I hear my SEIO 2600 a little, and my ASM G-3 a little too, but I consider the tank fairly quite.

ok.... i think it is settled. i think i will go with the eheim 1262 for the return. i think that it is a little on the low side for a return but maybe the slower contact time in the sump will help my skimmers work a little bit better. as for more flow i plan on having 2 seio 1100s and 2 2600s. i think that this flow will be more then enough. thanks for all the replies as i am sure that i will have way more questions.just when you think you have it all figured out you realize that you dont have a clue!
