Got a Yellowhead Jawfish Yesterday

Ok i put him in the DT last night. I dripped acclimated him for an hour and then i put him in the tank. He immediately swam to the back of the tank and i haven't seen him since.

I would give him some time. As long as there are no aggressive fish bothering him, he should eventually choose a burrow site. Make sure he has ample rock rubble to build it too.

The fish I have in the tank now are:

1. percula clown
2. false percula clown
3. purple tang
4. royal gramma

I read before that they can be really shy if there are tangs and angels in the tank before the jawfish. The purple tang isn't that agressive. I also have a purple reef lobster that killed a blood shrimp before. Could be a problem?

not sure about the lobster, but with the jawfish, mine is on day 5 or 6 in the DT, and he's made 3 differrent burrows so far, and he still only works on them when he knows no people are around. Also, if he starts making a burrow in the front of the tank, resist the urge to shine a flashlight down in it, because that will lengthen the amount of time before he feels secure, and will likely relocate and start all over again.

Yeah, they can be very shy - especially in the beginning. That's why they are a good candidate to be the first fish in a setup.

I'm not sure about the lobster either. I would be wary of it personally, as the jawfish lives on the bottom so the lobster could get it easily. How big is the lobster?

Tim

I would have a dded the jawfish first, but the tank crashed a little over a year ago, and the purple tang and the royal gramma were the only fish that survived. The lobster is about 3in.
