Got another anemone

Well I went to the store today looking for snails and hermits. I ended up coming home with a diamond watch goby, red and green open brain coral, the snails and hermits and a gbta with a bright pink base.

Having a gbta and rbta in the same tank right? I'm in the car now so I haven't got home to acclimate anything yet.

Thanks!

Take that back. Now looking at it the base is really more of a purple.

I had a quick question on how to get him out of the acclimation bag when it's ready to go in the tank? The RBTA I got on Tuesday was on the side where you could pick the foot off. This one is attached to the bottom edge (corner) of the bag where the only part available to touch really is the head. Can't really massage the foot loose?

You need to use your finger nail, work it gently under the foot. Once you get an edge free the rest you can just peel off. I gurnatee it will be a peice of cake. If you acclimate by floating you can take the bag out and put it in a bowl that way you can work on a stable surface out of the tank. Then just lift it into the tank. Good luck

When you get done, post a photo.

Oh, duh, never thought of taking it out and making the base flat. Otherwise where it is now it's pinched in the corner and can't get at it. Good thought.

Lmecher, I thought you had more than one anemone in a single tank? Just curious if I should be spacing these out or could they be near one another ect? Both are BTAs one is red and this one is green. I read the anemone FAQ sticky and it said they should be fine in the tank, but it never stated if they could touch, be close etc.

Thanks.

They could touch, my green moved close to and touching a rose it didn't seem to bother either. Just place it where you want it, it may have other ideas. I have several rbta and one gbta in the same tank. If they are the same species, no problems.

Here is a picture of the new GBTA. It's around 6" but most of it wrapped in and around the rock it's on.

And here is the new RBTA: Can anyone tell me if they think I should remove the rock on top (not the rock the anemone is on nor the one on the right. Structure is 2 pillars as the two pillars shown and 1 laying over top of them both) so it puts light down to it? I've had him since Tuesday. The tentacles are still nicely colored and bubbled even in the shadowed area where it is.

I guess it wouldn't hurt but be prepared, it may move again. Maybe your lights are too strong for it. What kind of lighting was it under before you purchased it? What kind of lighting do you have?

I have 250w DE 14k phoenix metal halide bulbs. It came from Diver's Den about an hour away from me (live aquaria). I believe they're using 400w 20k bulbs for throw aquaculture facility.

I will move the rock on top of the two pillars a bit for it to get light and I'll let you know if it expands or moves within the hour.

Edit: Never mind it doesn't help any. No more light goes there than there is with the rock on top. I think the rock it's attached to has that overhang and it blocks the light. Otherwise just leave it be before trying to move it for another day or two? I just don't want it to die from no light or something.

By the way, while moving that particular rock, a hermit crab fell and hit a tentacle of the GBTA and it closed within seconds. I snapped a shot with the camera but it is underexposed. The purple looks insane in my tank compared to what they used in the store. I'll have to try and it feed it mysis tonight and get a shot to post.

Thats right, I forgot you got it from LiveAquaria. What I do worry about is them not knowing when to come in out of the rain. In other words I have had one hunker down in a dark place and stay too long. By the time I decided to rescue it, it was too late. This only happened once when I was also new to anemones. I have found that usually if they are healthy to start with, they will eventaullay come out.
(Just reread your post)You've had it since Tuesday? That is just 2 days. I would at least give it a few weeks. I don't even attempt to feed for a week, let it acclimate and get used to your tank. This is not unusual behavior at all. Give it more time. I saw it when you posted a photo before, the red is a real beauty and the green is very nice too. I think you have nothing to worry about right now, they both look to be very healthy. Post updates, would love to see the rbta when it comes out of hiding. : )

Here it is. It closed a little for mysis but the hermit crab on the rock next to it decided he wanted to jump in apparently so that made it close more. At least it worked for a picture:

Alright, cool. I did feed 1 piece of mysis to the RBTA the first day and this GBTA got maybe 5-7 pieces of frozen mysis. This time was more an experiment to get it to close up and snap a pic of the purple base but the hermit crab did it for me anyway afterward.

I don't know if they just like pestering the anemone, careless on where they travel, or smelled the mysis that was in there.

As of now the GBTA moved straight back to that black area in the pic above with is an overflow box. It has real small slits in it. Maybe 5mm wide slits? Will this harm anemones?

I am not sure, as i don't have an overflow box on my tank. I would guess that as long as there is no risk of it getting sucked in then you are fine but be careful BTW the GBTA looks nice, love the purple foot :D

I have 7 gbta in my 55 tall an They are doing find 2 had babies. You got to keep an eye on them all the time They are like babies.

The GBTA is still behind the rock but unlike the RBTA it is actually in a lit area and doing well from what I can see of it.

I couldn't take watching the RBTA shriveled up any longer. I had to flip the rock over to let light in to him. About 5 minutes of time getting my camera the anemone went from basically a ball with very little tentacles coming out to this:

And since the time it took to upload this and make this post it closed it's mouth and more tentacles are bubbled up. I hope this is the right move by flipping the rock to allow light to reach it. Tuesday I got him and now it is Saturday. It definitely likes the light. I hope it stays there overnight.

 He stayed there all day while the lights were on and this morning moved backwards and sort of in the same spot. I think it'll still get light where it moved though. Before it was under an overhang.

Now my GBTA is nowhere to be found. Anemones are fun.
