dude if you are going to use Catalina Brand stuff I could vouch for it....
I bought a 3x175 watt methal halide retro fit for my 125 gallon reef tank about 8 months ago and its doing fine....But I would say that the lamps arent so good...It seems one is a different color or hue than the others....But, it isnt to much of a difference...I will certainely buy another bulb like hamiltons or xm or something else when i save enough money to buy all three...
I too was very concerned with Catalina Aquariums reputation.....
I also asked alot of questions and researched extensively on the internet...And, like any other high school student at the time ...$300 bucks is a lot even when you dont work...
If you want to ask more just ask...I can vouch for it...
I also bought a sump, refugium, and skimmer system for my overflow system on my tank...I see that you have a mega overflow as well...When i bought my tank I did not want to fork over so much for the All-Glass brand of sump that did not even include a skimmer, and the return pumps...So i saw the Catalina brand and I got it all together with pumps, skimmer and even a refugium light for $229....
Like many would say...Catalina is not a Hamilton or a Outer Orbit but it is pretty good for someone on a budget...And it is way better than a JEBO or ODDYSEY....I can vouch for these brands too...(THEY SUCK)....
But anyways...for the most part Catalinas fixtures and retro fits, and ballast are fine but the bulbs certainley could be much better....
