I Finally caught that nasty stone crab this morning!! He was actually out in the open and didn't immediatly run for cover the minute I walked up to the tank. I think he was stalking another snail and not paying attention, LOLOL.
Those stone crabs are really nasty and far worse hitchhikers than mantis shrimps or gorilla crabs in my opinion. They not only prey upon snails and hermits but also dig large trenches under all the rocks and can ruin your whole aquascape.
I am REALLY glad I got him outa there! He was about a 2 incher.
Yes but when he gets big his claws are tasy. Down here in florida stonecrab claws are great and they actually fish for them by catching the crabs, pulling off 1 claw and returning them to sea to regrow the claw!!
My stone crab hitchhiker was barely a spec on the LR when it arrived. He has molted several times and is ~3" wide now. He's the meanest ^%$$$$#33 you'll ever meet--maybe the reason I like him so much. 'Keeler' now has his own compartment in my new sump and I have a 55g tank ready for him when that gets too small.
