Got my first fish at reef plus!!

After a year of wanting to upgrade. My 125 is finally going and I picked up a 4" blue tang from steve over at reef plus!!

Sorry no pictures, he is aclimating in the dark right now. I've always wanted a blue tang, but never had a tank where I felt morally right about putting one into. Now I've finally got one.

I could have waited longer. But it has been running for 1 month, and the diatom bloom is over. He'll have that tank to himself for atleast a month or two. Lucky fish. :) Happy me! :D

Hope he's a good little guy.
 
I have a Blue Hippo in a 125 and he got pretty big and he loves it, he is in there with 2 other Yelow Tangs and they do well.

Hey bud, yep I got him. Wanted a little smaller but was really ready to get one NOW! Now he's in my tank just a little nervous hanging out in one spot. Tommorow I hope he gets to see how big of a tank he's actually in!

I hope he turns out to be a nice guy.
 
For 2 months he'll have plenty of time to get used to the tank. Then my 4 fish are going to join him.

I eventually want to add a powder brown tang. So I will have 2 tangs that hopefully buddy up. And a bunch of smaller fish, in my 125 tank.
 
Is it a hepatus or an atlantic blue?

Avoid Powder Brown Tangs! Although commonly offered in LFS, they have one of the worst survival records in captivity due to a lack of knowledge on their eating habits/requirements. Go with the White-Cheek Tang. Looks extremely similar to the Powder Brown but is waaaaaay hardier. If, when the time comes to purchase, you need help telling the difference LMK.

It IS the white cheek that I am getting. I just call it a powder brown. Both the japonicus (white cheek) and the other one are called powder brown.

Don't worry, I know what I'm doing. :)

Anybody have sucess with just 2 tangs? Looks like the hippo and powder brown are of different species. That is a good start. I added the hippo first because of their shy and gentle nature. I figure it is safer to add him first, and then the japonicus 4-5 months later.
 
I had m yellow, and then added my other yellow and blue ataround thesametimeandIhaveneverhad any issue's .....plus I got my hippo from Steve also so that is a bonus for you!!!
 
I wish I would have gotten a little smaller (my guy is 4" nose to tail) but I was impatient. All that matters is that he is healthy and behaves himself, and I will be happy.
 
He's gonna freak when you add another tang. And other fish. Most folks don't introduce tangs as the first fish, and the widely accepted rule is, when keeping multiple tangs, to try to add them at the same time. Good luck, but you might be setting yourself up for problems if this guy decides that box is his.
 
I have a hippo tang and a purple tang together in a 125 and they are doing fine. They like to swim with each other. I did add them at the same time though.

Well hopefully not. I hope I didn't set myself up for disaster. I really thought that since the blue tang is the most timid I wouldn't have any problems. I sure hope not now, after you said that.
 
You should add them in odd sets. and Not the same shape. I have a blue in with a yellow. No Problems. I added a unicorn and it was WW3. The blue was the problem child. I had to rearrange the rockscape to get them to stop fighting. Thats why you should add them to the tank last. they are very territorial especially when the get bigger. Good Luck.
