got part 1, the package!

Got my rock yesterday from Richard. All I can say is WOW.

First, he was going out of town, but made the extra effort to wake up super early, go get my rock packaged and brought it to his house for me to pick up. How does it get any better than that?
Then, after getting home and putting the sand in, I found a goby, just right from the sand!
After getting the rock and sand in, things cleared almost completely up after only 3 hours.
heres what I've found so far, hard to believe this is just the first part!
1 goby
1 black urchin
1 sea cucumber
10-20 porcelain crabs (biggets is about 1.5 inches!)
8 hermits
5 snails
Not to mention the abundance of life on the rock itself. There is so much to look at and I haven't added a thing to the tank but this. Tunicates, sponges, barnacles. Unless you get this live rock, your tank will never look as full of life as mine does right now. It isn't possible unless you go out and buy this stuff to add to your tank. But that will take YEARS. I could not be happier with part 1.

Hey BR congrats on your rock, your tank literally rocks. Which package did you order from Richard, can't wait to see part 2 in there. How do you like that skimmer, it's the same one I ordered, I haven't had a chance to play with it yet. I had it shipped directly to Marc's cause he is building my sump.

Hey man, I got the 120 package, but 1/2 the rock. I only wanted about 120 pounds not 240. Everything else will be the same though.

I like the skimmer so far. It's breaking in right now, so just overflowing into
Sump for the time being.... The bubble blaster pump is quiet though. Just a low, dull hum

Check out my build thread

Yeah, if I had to do it over again, that's what I do.

I love the rock, but it does take up considerable DT volume with the 2 lbs of rock per gallon rule of thumb. If I move to larger sump, I may put some of the base rock in there.

Sell some if you need to...I may or may not buy some more for mine depending on what it looks like next week when I get part 2

Who is it from? Tampa Bay Salwater? I hear great things about their rock, I am just not sure that whole airline cargo thing is going to be worth it for the 40- 60 pounds or so that I need... I prefer just simple fedex...

FYI..

The weight of the rock, almost doubles once you add water to it......so 50# will be real close to the minimum charge all the airlines have..of 100 pounds...

Fed ex?....you do not want to know how expensive they are for overnight service, which is how live rock must travel......airlines is the ONLY way to go...as it is only about $1 a pound as freight, where as fed ex cost almost $5.50 per pound......to ship.......overnight!

GET OUT OF HERE! TOO FUNNY!! I'm going TBS on my build too! You were just saying in my build thread how similar our systems were LOL :lolspin:

I know man. Great minds think alike!

Bro, I'm on the middle of my cycle and my ammonia hasn't gotten above .5 ppm. It's because the rock is completely submerged on water. Man, almost no dieoff whatsoever.

I went to my LFS store just to see what their live rock looked like... It looked soo boring, and was like 7-8 dollars a pound, are you kidding me.

I was only going for around 30lbs of rock and was worried about the same thing. The benefits from this rock versus the junk live rock I could find in my area out-weighted the shipping price 10 to 1. Plus I was pleasantly surprised when SWA was far less than the average $100 charge I was expecting (around 50% less).

got all my rock from them really incredible stuff, I ended up finding a few Mantis shrimp living in the crevices so be careful some people want them some dont i gave mine away to a friend for some green zoas, but they're VERY interesting creatures, beautiful rock by the way!

Thanks man! Check out my build thread for more pics and some more video.

Still no mantis shrimp...got another pistol off today..and got 3 more gorillas... They are feisty!

I've got more and more tunicates etc opening up in the tank..it gets beautiful when it opens....oranges, purples. Blues... Wow
