Got part 1

Went to the airport today to pick up part 1. This is a 75 gal package that's going into a 120. I already had LR from my 55.

It came in 5 boxes. 2 sand and 3 for rock/ very well packed as others have noted.

Known hithikers: 1 cuccumber that was in the sand. looks like the turd variety.

1 mantis. Looks to be a little over 2 inches long. It was in the bottom of the bag. it's still in the bag and will be for a while. The wife gave the green light for a mantis tank ;). I think my son is really gonna like having a mantis in the house.

1 crab, again found in the bottom of a bag. Looks like a maroon color with orange eyes and large claws, cream colored bands on the legs. I got him in a 1 gal rubbermaid container till i get an ID on him.

The most interesting thing appears to be a squid. It's about a 1/4 inch long. Translucent. It's sitting in the tub i was moving all the rock into during inspection.

So far I did not find any mantis or crabs actually on the rock itself. I flipped the rocks over a few time in the tub of SW i had.

I took some pictures and will try to post later. Of course I forgot to get pics on the LR sitting in the boxes.

Two of the pieces are very large. There's algae, sponges, barnacles, some sort of muscle/clam. Even a coral of some sort.

Cuttlefish sounds right. Can't find it now though. It was in the tub that I used to inspect the rock. I was going to put it into the display, never to be seen again I figured. There's a chance it ended up in the mantis tank since I was using some of the water from that tub to fill the tank.

I recommend that people go through the detritus in the bottom of the LR bags. I dumped all the water and "stuff" left in the bags into a tub. I went through the silt a number of times and found 3 starfish, some worms, and a crab( real tiny one).

May sound like too much effort but the main reason I went with TBS was for the life on the rocks. I doubt i'll see those starfish again since the largest had arms that were maybe 1.5 inches long. They all went into the rockwork fairly quickly.

Also if anyone needs shipping rates to Portland Maine. 5 boxes listed at 250 lbs was $163.

Don't think the pictures came out too well. They seem to be a bit washed out. I did try taking some with the macro setting but those were all blurry.

If I can get better ones i'll replace these...
