Well finallty got part2 in the tank.
It was an adventure. The storm that hammered the northeat was bigger then I expected. So I lost power Monday. I found out tuesday morning that part 2 was shipped out Monday afternoon. This was my fault since I forgot to tell richard to hold off on shipping it.
So there I am with no power/water/phone/heat. Luckily I had all that stuff at work. So I spent the day(Tuesday) trying to track down my shipment since I knew the airport would not be able to reach me.
It missed at least three flights from Philly to portland. I didn't find out that it arrived until 4;15 which was 15 minutes before air cargo in Portland closes. So I had to wait till today.
I think this worked out in my favor. My part 2 was at least in a heated building overnight.
I got my generator running Tuesday afternoon. So I had heat and i was able to get the heaters in the tank running again.
I picked up the rock this morning. The boxes were wet but intact. There was no major leakage. So I sat in a dark basement trying to get part 2 into the tank. I had 2 heaters running off the generator trying to get the tank temp up. It was around 60 or so. The tank had dropped into the high 50's in the 24 hours I had no heat in the house.
I wasn't able to really look for hitchikers...
The rock looks real nice. I got a couple good sized pieces along with alot of smaller ones that had corals on them. I just set these in the tank as best i could. Can't aquascape in the dark.... I detected no foul odors from the rock. So the shipping issues didn't hurt things too badly.
the critters faired well. There was water in the bottom of the box but things seemed intact. Richard packed some extras such as three sponges, what I think are three gorgonians, 4 anenmoneas, a scallop, and some interesting macro like shaving brush, halimedia, and something that resembles a green fan.
2 gorgonians(if i assumed correctly) had dark water in their bag. I assume that they gave something off during shipping.
I followed the acclimation instructions and got everything into the tank.
I have a stone crab that came on an orange finger sponge. I saw the crab in the back but wasn't sure how to get it out w/o exposing the sponge to air. I've read air and sponge don't mix, so the stone crab is running free in the tank.
I same another odd looking crab like creature that hicthed a ride with the 2 cukes. It has a pink shell. I'm not sure if it's really a crab or not. it's strange looking. I'll try to get a pic if i ever see it again.
Good news is power was restored at 6 PM tonight. My tank is close to 70 and i have all the pumps running etc.
I'll try to aquascape over the next few days.
I will say that the package is assume, like others have stated. i wish i could have handled part 2 better but I think everything will be fine.
I also can't believe the size of 2 of the snails Richard sent me. they are massive compared to what i'm used to. The shells are close to golf ball size.
