If anyone is interested in cultivating their own phyto I built a kit (see picture) from this design.

Worked great. I even cultivated rotifers for a while in a 5 gal tank (rotifers are feed the phyto prior to feeding to fish/corals). Rotifers are a bit of work but the phyto was not hard.
All you would need are some fresh cultures - U-GROWâ„¢ ALGAE CULTURE KITâ„¢ (I grew 2 kinds) from FAF and a few 2-Liter Coke bottles...

With all the PVC parts, lights, air pump, flow valves, in-line check valves, book, food, fertilizer, etc, etc... I'm sure I have > $150 in it.
