Got Stomatopod?

Nice graphic detail in my head on that one! I think I like you Marc. Nice previous post, BTW in the other thread. Big of you.

Most stomatopods will easily accept previously frozen foods such as chunks of silverside or even some popcorn shrimp from your local grocery store... you may choose to "treat" them a couple times every week or two with live prey like snails or crabs for your peacock,... shrimp and small fish for the "spearer's" : )
Dont forget to post pics as you go! They are much appreciated! : )
If anyone should choose to reserve a specimen without going through this thread, please save/post a pic and description including species and # and price as I am attemptimg to "catalog" all reserved specimens!
"Prop's" to stomatopod.com for dealing with us!... :D

Boy i wish i could post some pics already but all i can show is the spotwhere the tank will go. I'm having a tank built right now by keith grandt. Got my return pump ordered. I'm gonna tie it in with my 100 gallon. Boy this is gonna be awesome. Hey nuuze do you plan on putting a pvc pipe in there for a den? or just leave it natural?

Hehe! Yesterday was a long day. I had to work at 5AM too for a site power down/test for several hours then setting up this tank and weekely maintenance/water change on my bigger tank.

I'm gonna go with the natural look. I think I need to leave rubble in there for the shrimp too to build with.

My rainbow mantis would close up his burrow every night and unless you knew where it was you would never even know where the opening was, same with the little wennerae smasher..

I am kicking myself right now. I must have set 50 or so of these guys free when i WAS IN fLORIDA ON THE PREMISIS THAT mANTIS SHRIMP ARE MEAN MAMA JAMA'S. tHEY SURE ARE PRETTY THOUGH.

Mantis shrimps are the sweetness. I really miss having one. I have only kept the smaller species, and g. chiragra, which is a medium sized prawn, but I think your setup is a little on the small side for o. scyllarus. It'll probably be fine, just my thought.

Personally I like the smithii's and the veridis. The larger ones creep me out a little... but they're all very cool creatures.

Happy Super Bowl Sunday! GO GIANTS!!

With the skimmer running about 8 hours now, the water is crystal clear!

I'm thinking of replacing it with an AquaC nano though. Thoughts on the AquaC or other brand?

I'm really interested in running it in my elos now to test.

NS500 is about $100 more, 8 more watts but rated lower than the MCE600...

Well, not much to look @ yet as I still need a stand before I can set her up... Here's a pic of the new tank shown next to a standard 10g for reference - the black acrylic on the floor is the divider I had cut:)
MANTISTANK001.jpg

All cleaned up with divider in place :D Originally intended to permenantly bond the acrylic divider to the tank, but the test-fit was so snug (rubber mallet) that I think I will just leave it loose incase I decide to ever move/remove the divider... Not to sure about it, dont want to make the cubes too small...
What does everyone think? Opinions welcome!

Hey guys! Decided to pop over from the mantis forum! stomatopods are probably the coolest crustacean on this side of malacostaca (that was a really geeky joke. If you didn't get it I don't blame ya :D ) Anywho if you have any questions feel free to pop by the stomatopod.com forum (stomatopod.com/forum) or go to the RC mantis board. Stomatopod.com is definately top notch and I haven't heard bad reviews from them yet.

I had my eye on that female P. ciliata. You are a lucky guy BodiBuilt ;) The females tend to be a bit more aggressive (outgoing) than males in P. ciliata. In fact they actually rape the males when they mate (little fun fact  ). She should be a fun lil' spitfire!

Good luck you guys!

Dan
