Got Stomatopod?

i'm 99.5% sure that you'd be able to change that fire shrimp's name to "lunch". crabs, snails, and shrimp all pretty much fall into the "food" category for a mantis.

Hmm, I wonder if I can setup a small 10-20G display tank with one of these critters and also using it as a fuge/cheato with a small pump that overflows into the current system...

The smashers can but i think highly unlikely! You hear these things but how many have you actually seen or heard do it? They for sure wont break acrylic. I think the main one that would be able to do it would be a full grown Peacock. The rest are too small.

Nuuze, I am almost positive that is how jlfnjlf had his set up he actually put a window in his stand so he could see this tank and i think it was his fuge tank.

this is straight from the stomatopd forum

The answer to this question lies soley in what species your mantis is, how big your mantis is, and how big your tank is. Generally the bigger the tank, the thicker the glass. Thicker glass is better.

A peacock mantis in the 7 inch range is for sure capable of cracking some glass. Capable meaning it can if provoked or not provided enough sand to "seat" it's hard shelled prey when smashing.

Typically speaking, the largest of Peacock and Chiragra are species most capable of glass damage. If possible it is recommended to use an acrylic tank for this size of specimen. If this is not an option then a 20gal or larger glass tank should be only slightly risky with a nice 2"+ bed of sand. In addition, the bottom could be lined with acrylic sheet. Be sure not to taunt your large mantis!

I think I want a Peacock Mantis! :D Just amazing!

Time to get past the WAF (wife acceptance factor)

So far I'm diggin' #8 & #15.

But I have to get a tank ready...unless I plan on having it in my Elos...:D

I'm also tempted to try and getting two to pair up.

Yeah # 8 is pretty awesome!

Been emailing Billy and he said he is uploading the mantis from the 14th shipment right now!

As of now i think i am getting #7

Dont worry the new ones arent up yet, Guess he is still working on them.

Overall i would have to say #8 is the nicest one. But that is probably why it cost the most

I too am in progress of acquiring a tank and getting the wifes approval. She wasn't too impressed with it killing a octopus probably shouldn't have shown her that one oops. Anywho i'd be in for a peacock. Whats the timeframe you guys are lookin at?

Well, if stomatopod.com is willing to work with us and hold the specimens we choose then we can take a little more time before the order actually ships. I still need to set up my tank aswell, and I still need to decide if I want to house two in one which will require me to cut and glue one acrylic divider... Hmm : )
Realistically speaking my tank will probably be a month out by the time it is set up and cycled... I could speed up the process if needed based on what others want to do!

I'm game for when ever.

Looks like we are up to

kdblove_99- 1
Subajim maybe 1 pending wifes approval
Nuuze maybe 2 pending wifes approval
Bodi maybe 2
Shiveley 1

7 is pretty darn good i think? Will have to wait until david gets home and reads his email from Billy to see if there are certain amount he wants us to hit.

he is a super nice guy
