Got Stomatopod?

How bout a DIY, Davey? If its going in the stand it won't matter what it looks like. I think a 3" PVC recirc would be great. Randy Stacye's site has great instructions.

kdblove_99,

What do you not like about the remora? That's what I ended up with for my tank. Little bit noisy but seems to skim well. I also tried my MCE600 to quickly clean the water and it was crystal clear overnight. But yes, overkill and may tip over my 15G. :)

I think the MCE600 would be some serious overkill

:D

Yes it would, but you'd never worry about an underperforming skimmer! It's too bad the 300 is not more like the 600. Honestly looks and performs like it was not a Deltec. Still better than most others, but not even close.
I do like the Tunze for it's size and relative quietness. On a mantis tank, it should be fine up to 40-50g, but an sps tank, I wouldn't go over something like a 25g. But, I tend to prefer to overskim and not just get by.

Like you said the remora is kinda loud and also mine didnt skim well at all. they are hand made so they are not all the exact same so some skim pretty good and others like the one i had doesnt do welll at all

Yeah, me also i would also rather overskim. It will just be a mantis tank maybe i will throw in some Damsels.

Yeah i read the super long thread on the MCE300 and it was pretty mixed.

How is the MC500?

The MC 500 is essentially a non-HOB version of the MCE600. Though I have not tried it, it is nearly identical, and as such, I would assume it's very good.

Yeah, it did a pretty good job on an old 40 I had. Mostly a softy tank, but it kept things clean. For a HOB and for it's size, it does a decent job. A little bit noisier than the others.

yeah, I saw that one jeremy i Pm'd him a few days ago but got no reply but no way will i pay $135 for a used one when for $15 more can get a brand new one

Looked at the Octopus HOB thread and that seems like a real nice HOb with a nice price tag. One of the few HOB that i have seen that pulls out some dark skim and doesnt skim wet all the time.

Only issue is i hate big pumps hanging down in tank and think it is too wide for my sump

Finally got the stand finished :)
Picking up a 55g acrylic from xia on tuesday for the middle shelf, and I'm still looking for a suitable sump... sorry for the little pic (still cant quite figure out how to upload a decent pic) lol...

Next step: plumbing :p

Looking good Dave,

I love Plumbing. I use to think Jimdogg was a freak cause he told me when i first met him he loved doing the plumbing. NOw i know what he meant

You guys got ME excited about your shrimps! I cant wait to see pics/videos of them. Hey Kdblove, I have also heard very good things about the Octopus Skimmers

Yeah, To be honest I'm more than confident this thing will outperform the 9002 easily!

This will cost me $146 shipped brand new! There is a very long thread on these Octo HOb and they are pulling out some nasty dark skimmate

I had the 9002 and was VERY underwhelmed by its performance as well as its build quality...

man, you guys are going high-tech on these shrimp tanks...I was just thinking of going with a H.O.T. Magnum 250 and calling it a day, but now I'm feeling somewhat inadequate...
