Got Stomatopod?

The Mantis' are lookin great everybody. I was sooo close to getting one, but these two took the potential mantis' home, and are not compatible with those vicious crustaceans.

Beautiful Wrasses!
It wont be forever when the day finally comes to set that HUGE (really-heavy) tank up...
Then the wrasses will leave that tank up for grabs! And what about that sump/fuge?
:spin1:

You Know You Want One... Of "those vicious crustaceans."

:D

Jeremy $Cha-Ching!

Gem, Naming is up to you.

Yes, I did get the word on the Ternetensis, But i can't tell you. Actually they are going to do the same thing they did with the Smithii

I believe on thursday forgot the time. should be up on there site. they will add them for people to buy. Believe they will be around $65 in that range. Billy said about the same price as the Smithii.

WIsh i could do it. But right now is not the best time.

So it would be cool if another local got one of the 2 Ternetensis!

All the more reason for you to go visit Jo Jo's! Last I was there they had a whole tub full of L.R. rubble (fist sized and smaller) for less than $2 a pound!

Dave, the Rhomboids are in the fuge, as I wanted to get them acclimated without getting beaten up by the Flame or Hooded wrasses. He could go in the sump, but that's got LR in it and no light. We'll see after I get the 250g beast up!:D

Couple things i have learned about Mantis over the past few weeks. They are pigs and slobs:)

Mine never seems full, he is always looking for food no matter how much i feed him and what a mess. I have done quite a few water changes already

Just an update: added an Occelaris Clownfish to teh Mantis tank and they are ignoring each other. Good news for the actual reef tank with the mantis.

My mantis is busy diggung out his den and enlarging his space under one of the larger chunks of live rock in the tank. He has three different exits and a fairly large burrow now it looks like.

The guy will eat every day if I feed him, but I have ot cut back or it will be way too much. He can always hunt the snails and hermit crabs if he gets hungry enough.

Anyhow, hope the rest of you are still doing well.

I want to keep fish with the mantis, and set it up as a small reef tank. So I eventually decided I wanted the first fish to be an Ocellaris clown, and put him in there to test the waters so to speak, as I am planning to add a couple more fish that are more expensive. He is doing fine and the mantis is ignoring him so it looks pretty good.

There should not be an issue. I have fish in mine also. You just dont want slow bottom dwellers. Usally the smashers will leave fish alone.

Its the spearers you have to worry about

my peacock regularly swims to the top of her tank to grab her silversides. can't imagine she wouldn't do the same to a clown. she's fast, and ruthlessly efficient. I wouldn't put any fish in there that I didn't plan on being a meal. just seems like a needless risk to me.

My Mantis is much smaller a peacock (21/2 inch G. Smithii). Based on my research he shouldn't bother any fish above half his length. I also have a fairly large CUC/food bank for him, and I feed regularly. That said, there is a risk, and that is why I started with a clown. I had to balance a test fish as a fish I wanted to keep, but one that was not really expensive.

What can I say I want a full tank not just a mantis.

yep, me also. I have added corals even and fish. For the most part the coral thing hasnt gone to great. He doesnt eat or anything just knocks them off the rock and uses them to cover his hole:) Mainly Zoo's.

Anemones are suppose to be ok also. Just have to watch how strong of a light you use, Don't want shell disease!

Anyone local plan on getting one of those ternetensis? If so ask Billy to throw in a few Chiragra's. They said they have alot of them and just need people to adopt them.

I could use another one for my sump again:)

Well, looks like i am the first of the bunch to have a molt. great timing on adding that mansion for Chucky.

He looks like a good molt. When i left he was in the T and looking pretty weak. SO we will see when i get home

Mandolyn sucessfully molted nearly a week and a half ago. She holed herself up for six days! She has regained her voracious appetite already...
I threw a half dozzen damsel's in the 55g with the (other) large peacock "un-named", and there has been no issues. I have even seen one of the damsel's swim through her pvc burrow while she was in it and came out the other side unharmed!
I would love to have that Ternetensis shown in the "sneak peek's"... I just dont think I can swing it at the moment
:sad2:

Haven't been able to get a full body shot, but I did manage to get a shot of his meral spread:

Balboa.jpg

In Balboa's first week, he's eaten silversides, a hermit, and his former tankmates (two damsels). Since then, I've had him on a steady diet of one Emerald Crab a week. He leaves the two starfish alone, and doesn't even bother going after the blue-legs I have in there.
