i have been fairly lucky with valonia and hair algae. i do get little outbreaks here and there but (so far) nothing really extensive or invasive. the valonia you see took about 8 months to grow and there is a little patch not too far from it but i doubt it will get any bigger than that since it hasnt done diddley for about a year since i first noticed it. even if it did decide to grow, i am curious to see how long this little patch will take to grow out. strange, i know.
i do hear of people ready to pull their hair out from hair and valonia...so i guess i am either doing something right or just plain lucky...and i am pretty sure it is just lucky because i do not do a whole lot of maintenance on this tank with the valonia...just a 20% (or so) water change per week with old tank water from my 180g sps tank. i check alk and ca, oh...maybe once a month...maybe. everything is doing great...nems (growing wayyyy tooo big), clams (ditto), lps'(ditto again)...but the zoo's dont like it in there...go figure!
