Well, a long overdue update on my tank.
Had some growing pains with this build. Sitting now at just over a year old.
Let me start by saying my TBS rock is still going strong. Very glad I invested in them. Still have tons of critters from the original package. Most of the sponges on the rocks and tunicates are gone, but the free standing ones are there and healthy.
Now to the bad.
Started my fish with a supposed reliable source. Everything was going well for a while and decided to pick something up from another store. Well, within a short period of time, ich showed up. I battled with starting a quarrintine program with a tank full of fish. After a 6 month battle, I finally completed a fallow period of 72 days. Lost most of my original fish due to learning to quarrintine on the fly. Started with copper and wiped out several. Finally moved to ttm after losing my tangs to an unknown filter issue. Had the fish in a 40 gallon breeder with a hob filter . Changed the carbon filter. Had rinsed it quiet well before installing it. All my tangs immediately bellyed up. The remaining where fine. Can't figure it out.
Anyway, I run everything back thru ttm and a 2 week observation. Slowly running 2 fish at a time thru ttm and observation to stock the tank. No issues with the fish so far . I do have a blue throat trigger who isn't eating yet. It's now in observation period.
Corals seem stable. Not satisfied with my growth. I cannot keep torch corals for some reason. I have a mixture of sps and Lps. I quit adding coral to give myself time to set a proper quarrintine for coral. I am scared of introducing ick again.
I am afraid I have underpowered my lighting. Still have 3 Kessil 360we and 4 t-5 bulbs. Recently watched a brs video on these lights. It would appear I need 3 more lights to properly cover my tank for mixed reef. All that I saw showed it wouldn't support an sps dominate tank.
So my problem is, add more lights, or change to a higher output brand. Torn between the Kessil 700 or radians gen4pro
Parameters are fairly stable. Calcium spiked a month ago, but that's been remedied. I will post pictures at work tonight.
