so i bought a purple firefish from LFS a month ago... a week later i saw it had these little flatworm, cloudy/white about 1-2mm leeches on it's body, near the tail end. I also saw it squirming and scraping rocks, as if to scratch an itch/take it off.

i took it out of my tank. and last week i noticed 1 of my beautiful yellow tangs is exhibiting this behavior, as well as a royal gramma.

i cant take a picture of it. but imagine a see through but opaque white flat round leech type of thing on a fish.

how the hell do i treat it? also, freakin' ick is now present... some days i see it on a fish, some days i dont.

ps this is a reef tank with lotsa coral.

Flatworms can be treated with prazipro. Ich would require putting ALL of the fish into QT and treat with copper or hyposalinity, and leaving the DT fallow for 10 weeks. Read the stickies in this forum for more detailed instructions.

In the future, QT all new fish and treat accordingly, and you can avoid this kind of problems. It's much easier to treat one fish in a QT than a whole tank of fish in the DT.

Yeah, using a QT is not just a rumor---it's vital for long-term success and maximum enjoyment of this great hobby/addiction.

Exactly. Prazipro is easy to use and readily available. Always quarantine.

Prazipro is safe to dose in the DT. The only thing is that it's designed to kill worms, so if you have worms that you want to keep, you may want to remove them. This includes feather dusters, bristleworms, etc.

I personally would go fallow for longer than 10 weeks. I went 10 weeks to the day, then placed a few of my fish back in DT over a weeks time. All the fish had been in a copper treatment for the full 10 weeks. Three days later, they all have ich again. I'm so bummed. It was a ton of work to catch all of them, only to have it start all over again.
