Great Marshall Islands LR from Prem Aqu

I just want to say 'thank you' to the Premium Aquatics team for the excellent MI LR that I recently received. I ordered 80 pounds and it looks great. I got the rock just as it was almost done cycling at their facilities I believe. I snapped a few pictures and put it in my new 120g tank with 50g sump. I have had lots of water movement and have not had any measurable amounts of Ammonia or Nitrite! I could not believe it. Also no smell.
The rock does seem to be "shedding" some currently. I am not sure if that is the correct term but there are little bits of floaty brown dieing stuff in the water and collecting on the surfaces of the rock. I have just done my best to blow it off with a turkey baster every few days.
All in all the rock was great and I am very happy. The colors were pretty good and the sizes and shapes were excellent. Marshall Islands Live Rock from Premium Aquatics is a great choice... I will definately order live rock and livestock from them again in the near future. :D

I wanted to take more pictures but I wanted to hurry and get the rock into the tank. The rock was all well packaged in two seperate boxes with only some very minor breakage. There were plastic bags that kept the moist heavy weight brown paper against the rock about perfectly saturated. I had to work quickly to arrange the rock on the tarp and take pictures before I damaged the rock by letting it dry out.
I found two mean looking little crabs hiding in the bottom of the bags. I did not add them to the tank because they had pinchers that were very pointy and I have read that those guys can catch and kill fish in your tank.
Great rock for a good price from a great group of people. :D

Ok... here are some pictures of the MI LR that I have in my tank.
(Most all of the LR in the tank is from Premium Aquatics. There are 3 pieces of Base Rock that I got from Reefer Rocks that are in the bottom Right corner of the tank... they are the ones without any Coralline algae yet)

Here is a "full tank shot"... remember the three rocks in the bottom right were Base Rock. Here is a picture and then I have a picture with a Red X over the Base Rock. :)

Overall... I am Very Happy with my Live Rock purchase from Premium Aquatics. :D :D :D :D :D

Hi there,

How's your MI rock doing? I just wanted to let you know that you are a big reason why I am about to spend a whole lot of dough on some rock. My wife would like to have a word with you. Just kidding. But seriously, I am about to buy 40 pds of MI and your excellent rock and the fact that you are very happy with your MI from PA did help put persuade me. Did you overnight yours? Do you think 40 pds. is enough for a 55 gal. Thanks!

I just returned from a road trip to PA for some MI rock. They let me go ahead and pick out whatever I wanted. 45 mintes later, I finally finished up. I got home, and did a bit of aquascaping in the 125. 70 lbs of base reef rock and 100 lbs of MI seemed to do the trick. Now, onto the curing process. It all looks just like the stuff pictured above. The corraline is pastel colored, hence why I chose it. Their Fiji rock looked nicer than any other I have seen.

Hey!
The rock is doing great! The purple coralline is looking very nice and it seems like I have at least two different varieties (one is a darker violet purple and another is a lighter purple). Recently the dark red coralline algae is becoming more apparent. It looks great and I hope that it continues to come out. :)
I would go for a bit more than 40 pounds for your 55g tank. I wish that I had ordered a bit more for my 120g (I got 80 pounds but had some Base Rock as well). If you end up with too much you can place it in your sump because you will need it later to mount frags and to trade with others. Someone wanted to give me some Zoanthids and Mushrooms the other day but needed some LR in return (because they were mounted on LR). I couldnt get the frags because I did not order enough LR  He did not want to give me the great looking mushrooms and Zoas and get a piece of Base rock rubble in return and I dont blame him.
So order a little extra! You will wish you had.
I still love the rock and think that it is the greatest reef decision that I have made with this tank so far. :)

Sorry I did not finish answering your question... got a little crazy here at work. :D
I was really torn about the shipping. I just went with the standard ground shipping. I almost went with the next day or overnight option but decided against it. The rock got to me fine with the standard shipping. I live in Atlanta so it got to me pretty quick from Indiana (I think that is where they are located right?).

I wish that I lived close enough for a road trip. I would fill up the bed of my truck for sure and the wife would go nuts :eek1: :eek2: :D
I had heard that their Fiji rock is very good right now. Sometimes Fiji rock comes in and looks kinda average that I have seen ... however if you call Prem. Aquatics you can ask them what they have (shapes, colors, sizes, quality, etc...) and they will tell you exactly what they have and what the best options are.
Premium Aquatics gets an A+++ I am super happy with them for sure. :D

Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions. I am happy for you that you have such great looking rock! Thanks for your very wise advice. I think I will get 50 pds. of LR instead of the 40. The only concern I have is will the extra LR limit the space I have for fish. My present plan is to get one small or medium sized puffer and maybe one or two other small tank mates. In about a year or so I will upgrade to a larger tank as the puffer outgrows the 55 gal. tank. What do you think? Thanks!

I am not sure how quickly puffers grow so I cannot honestly comment on the size / space issue... Puffers are not reef safe as I understand (I have never had one) so I assume that you are going for a Fish Only with Live Rock (FOWLR) tank... so you will not need a lot of extra pieces of LR for mounting frags. At least not until you decide that you are ready to change over to a mixed reef setup which happens A LOT to people starting out :D . You do have a sump right? Any extra LR could go in the sump to help with the Bio Filtration. Anyways I would say that 50-55 pounds would be a good amount and still allow plenty of swimming space for your fish. Good luck and dont forget to take lots of pictures. :)

I just want to say your tank has inspired me! I am about to upgrade to a 90 and was planning on ordering 40# of marshall from PA. I want to ask where did you get your base rock?

Because I have some lively rocks in my 55 I'm going to use to seed my new tank. I'd like to save some money and get some base rock.

Nevermind, Reeferrocks, I missed that. I'm probably going to do the same combo as you. Except 60# of base rock, 20# of Marshall, and 20# of my rock.

Where did you get that sand BTW? That's the EXACT sand I am looking for!

Sorry I havent responded very quickly. I havent been on RC much recently.
Anyway... I would check the price of ReeferRocks. They were pretty expensive for Base Rock. Dont get me wrong they will send you beautiful Base Rock that is for sure and they will send you the size and shape that you want however they are pretty expensive. If I had it to do all over again armed with the knowledge that I have now I would have gotten only one large piece of Base Rock from RR to put in the back of the tank on the bottom and then fill the rest of the tank with the Beautiful Marshall Islands PA rock. I love it and am very happy with it. :)
