Great product! Question

It has now been about a week since I installed one Vortech on my 72 Bow and I must say that I am thoroughly impressed! I replaced my two Tunze 6000's with one Vortech and it has been a great upgrade. I mounted the Vortech on the side of my tank. The Vortech is definitely wider and the Tunzes. Not quite as strong end to end, but wider. I love the pulse mode and can get quite a wave, but that leads to my question.
How loud are these things supposed to be? I only have the one, so I have nothing to compare to. The pulse mode creates a "grrrrr" sound (when it is on during the pulse) if I turn the intensity up past halfway. It is loud enough that it really isn't tolerable when we are sitting in the room. I had it 3/4 up on pulse the other night and my wife asked me if the dishwasher was on! Does anyone else have these in pulse and have the intensity all the way up? Are they noisy? I realise this is rather subjective but I am trying to figure out if something is off with my pump. I'd love to use pulse all the time, but right now it is too loud......

With the WWD it will be a bit louder than with the standard driver as it is no longer running at a constant speed. Of all the modes of operation the Pulse Mode is the mode where the noise will be the most pronounced. There is no way to measure the amount of noise and what is the normal level. If you feel it is way to loud for you send it in and we will see if we can quiet it down some.

Are there any tricks to quiet it down that we can do ourselves? I just got a pump back from Icecap service and it's still loud. I turn it down before I go to bed every night since I live in a loft...
