great shops near milwaukee

Is there any great shops near milwaukee? I am heading up there tom and thought i might look for some stores.

Coral Corner in Racine.
Hoffers on the north side of Milwaukee.
I can't say that they are great. There are other fish stores, but they are either very expensive, or they have very little in the way of corals. But your'e probably just looking anyway.
Have you been to Shary's Reef near Gurnee Mills?

Hoffer's and Aquatics Unlimited are probably the must stops for looking

they both claim to be the high end stores for the area, and the prices match

but you can usually find something interesting in the tanks

to be truthfull, we all head to Chicago to get our corals

Check out Sho Tank aquariums in Mundelein my favorite Matt there is a class act best to hit there on a Friday. Then go a little farther south and stop in at Sea Schor in Buffalo Grove, great selection of SPS he has a new store I haven't been there yet. Then head west to Ocean's Floor in Lake in the Hills, it is in an industrial building center. Nice stuff Dave will frag any colony you want but, only sell you what your system can handle.

i'll have to remember this thread. i'll be in milwaukee for two weeks at the end of june/beginning of july.

no unfortunately i didnt. I was in milwaukee but was to exhausted to go searching. And racine and mundelien were way out of the way of my travel. But i will keep them in mind.

as strange as this sounds, hoffers is cheap compared to aquatics unlimited.

i saw an open brain coral at aquatics unl for 175 dollars, and it wasnt anything special... for 70 dollars any online place could have that delivered to your door. hoffers was less than 100 for the same type of coral last week....

i do need to get to N illinois soon...

I go to Hoffers frequently, as it's only 10 minutes from my work and 20 minutes from home. For me to order online is a pain, because I have to have stuff delivered to a neighbor.

I have never been to Rod's, but I've heard only good things from a lot of people. One thing I've heard though is call ahead and talk to him about when you're planning on going there.

I sometimes go to Ken's Animal house in Lake Geneva, WI. Older guy who has been there as long as I have been alive. Very small amount on hand, hit or miss. He receives shipments on Monday, so by the weekend everything is picked over by the regulars earlier in the week. His tank in the front has some massive corals (10+ years running)...210g I think.

He will order anything you like. We received a look down last year and two Lions for half the usual prices of Aquatics Unlimited.
AU does have a lot to look at though.

I need to check out Hoffers.

A new place opened in Waterford, WI last year or the year before. Not sure how well they are doing or the selection.
