Green algae on sand cyano?

Having trouble figuring out what this green algaw like substance is on my sand bed. It form a kind of crust on the sand surface. It's confined to this tank even tho I have a shared sump with two display tanks. What I find strange it is shows up durring the night and at low light times. When the main lights are on it goes away or at least fades to the color of the sand. Phosphates so 0 on a Hanna checker. Nitrites and ammonia 0 nitrates high at 20 but they are always high and always have been because I like fat healthy fish. Tank has been up over two years. Light are black boxes with SB reef lights upgraded pc boards. Any ideas what this is exactly or how to get rid of it? I remove it and it keeps returning. Thanks and merry Christmas

I had a similar problem. Thought it was Bryopsis but figured I would try Red Slime Remover because H2O2 had no effect. The first round started to remove it and the second round completely got rid of it all. I had to use an air pump while using the RSR to keep the oxygen level up. Also take any media or carbon or GFO off line. Adjust your skimmer because it will go nuts but keep it on just turn way down. You also could use ChemiClean if you want.

Could certainly be green cyano...it comes in various colors. .that vibrant green being one of them..

Siphon/3 day lights out or cyano chemical treatments like red slime remover or chemiclean

Thanks I will look into the red slime remover. I hate to do lights out because my LPS are really thriving right now compared to what they were a few months ago, plus this green stuff seems to love light out for some reason.

3 days lights out will not not harm your corals at all..
Its safer than the chemical route..

Any idea why this stuff seems to thrive when the lights are out? It completely disappears after 6-7 hours of peak lighting then after a night of lights out its back again.

Just wanted to update. I ordered some of the red slime remover only to discover I already had some. Me thinks I have too much stuff and not organized. Anyway I put it in Thursday evening and Saturday the tank looked good. This is from this morning and still looking well. Everything seems fine. Skimmer went a little crazy but settled down after a couple of days. It was nothing like when I used prazipro. Thanks for the help all.
